लोडसेडिङ घट्यो

काठमाडौं- कुलेखानी दोस्रोको एउटा युनिट १६ मेगावाट) ले बिजुली उत्पादन गर्न थालेपछि विद्युत् प्रधिकरणले शुक्रबारदेखि साताको छ घन्टा लोडसेडिङ हटाउने भएको छ । यसअघि साताको साढे ४६ घन्टा लोडसेडिङ थियो ।
राति १२ देखि भोलिपल्ट बिहान ४ बजेसम्म गर्दै आएको लोडसेडिङ पूण रूपमा हटेको प्रधिकरणले जनाएको छ । त्यस्तै बिहान ४ देखि ८ बजेसम्मको लोडसेडिङ पनि एक घन्टा कटौती भएको छ । यसअनुसार शुक्रबारदेखि बिहान ५ देखि ८ बजेसम्म विद्युत् आपर्ति कटौती हुनेछ । त्यस्तै बिहान ९ देखि दिउसो १ बजेसम्म हुदै आएको लोडसेडिङ १२ बजेसम्म कायम हुने प्रँधिकरणको भार प्रेषण केन्द्रले बिहीबार जारी गरेको विज्ञप्तिमा छ ।
प्रधिकरणले अत्यधिक बिजुली खपत हुने समय बेलुकी ५ देखि ९ बजेसम्मको लोडसेडिङ तालिका भने यथावत् राखेको छ । प्रधिकरणले यसअघि विभिन्न १२ खण्डमा लोडसेडिङ तालिका बनाएको थियो । रातिको लोडसेडिङ हटेपछि ११ वटा खण्डमा विभिन्न ७ समूहमा आपूर्ति कटौती हुनेछ । प्राधिकरणको उत्पादन महाप्रबन्धक डा. जीवेन्द्र झाका अनुसार कुलेखानी-२ को अर्का युनिट -१६ मेगावाट) आगामी चैत १८ गते मर्मत पूरा हुनेछ ।
कुलेखानी दोस्रको दइवटा युनिट गरेर थप ३२ मेगावाट प्रणालीमा जोडिएपछि लोडसेडिङमा सुधार हुने अपेक्षा प्रधिकरणले गरेको छ । गत वर्षो चैत महिनामा एउटा युनिट ब्रिरेपछि त्यसलाई मर्मत गर्ने क्रममा अर्का युनिट पनि बन्द हुन पुगेको थियो । त्यही बन्द भएको युनिट गत बुधबारदेखि सञ्चालन भएको हो ।
यतिखेर प्रणालीमा करिब ७ सय ५० मेगावाट बिजुली माग छ भने आपर्ूर्ति अझै करिब २ सय ५० मेगावाट अपुग छ । सरकार र लोकतान्त्रिक मधेसी मोर्चाबीच बिहीबार भएको सम्झौतापछि तर्राई क्ष्ँेत्रका उद्यँे ग, कलकारखाना सुचारु हुने भई माग फेरि बढ्ने प्रँधिकरणले जनाएको छ ।

सम्झौतामा मधेसी जनताको स्वायत्त मधेस प्रदेशको चाहनालगायत अन्य क्षेत्रका जनताको स्वायत्त प्रदेशसहितको संघीय संरचनाको आकांक्षा स्वीकार गरी नेपाल संघीय लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्रात्मक राज्य हुने उल्लेख छ ।
सम्झौताअनुसार संघीय संरचनामा केन्द्र र प्रदेशका बीच स्पष्ट रूपमा शक्तिको बा“डफा“ड सूचीको आधारमा गरिनेछ भने प्रदेशहरू पर्ूण्ा रूपले स्वायत्त र अधिकार सम्पन्न हुनेछन् । नेपालको र्सार्वभौमिकता, एकता र अखण्डतालाई अक्षुण राख्दै स्वायत्त प्रदेशहरूको संरचना, केन्द्र र प्रदेशका सूचीहरूको पर्ूण्ा विवरण र अधिकारको बा“डफा“ड संविधानसभाबाट निर्धारण गरिनेछ ।
संविधानसभा सदस्य निर्वाचन ऐन, २०६४ को दफा ७ को उपदफा १४ मा रहेको २० प्रतिशतको वर्तमान कानुनी व्यवस्थाको सट्टा ३० प्रतिशत गरिने सम्झौतामा जनाइएको छ । नेपाली सेनालाई राष्ट्रिय स्वरूप प्रदान गर्न र समावेशी बनाउन मधेसीलगायत अन्य समुदायको समानुपातिक समावेशी र समूहगत प्रवेशलाई सुनिश्चित गरिने जनाइएको छ ।
तत्काल लागू हुने गरी भएको सम्झौतामा मधेस आन्दोलनका क्रममा सहादत प्राप्त गरेकाहरूलाई सहिद घोषणा गर्ने, हालसम्म राहत नपाएका र अंगभंग भएकालाई राज्यले उचित राहत उपलब्ध गराउने उल्लेख छ । आन्दोलनका घाइतेको उपचार खर्चको व्यवस्था र सहादत पाएकालाई सहिद घोषणा गरी आश्रति परिवारलाई १० लाख रुपैया“का दरले राहत दिने तथा गिरफ्तारलाई तत्काल रिहा गरिने उल्लेख छ ।

NEA reduces load-shedding hours

KATHMANDU- The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has reduced the load shedding hours from seven hours and thirty minutes to six hours daily effective from Thursday.
NEA reduced the load shedding hours after the machine at the Kulekhani Hydroelectricity Project resumed operation. Operation of the 32 Megawatts capacity machine was stalled for repair.
Load-shedding hours for the morning schedule have been reduced by one hour. There will be load-shedding from 5am to 8am in the morning schedule instead of the previous 4am-8am load shedding hours.
Similarly, the load-shedding hours scheduled for 9am to 1 pm has been reduced by 1 hour to 12 pm.
However, no changes have been made to the schedule for the evening hours.
Meanwhile, the load-shedding hours from 12 midnight to 4 am has been completely withdrawn.

Three killed in seperate road crashes

Dublin- Three people have lost their lives in seperate road accidents overnight in Ireland. A 46-year-old man died following a single vehicle crash on the Naas Road at Baldonnell in Dublin. The man was the driver of the car. Gardai in Rathcoole are investigating.Meanwhile a man was killed in County Cork. A car and a four by four collided at Rooves Bridge near Coachford.The victim - who was driving the four by four - was in his thirties. The female driver of the car was taken to hospital.In Co Galway a pedestrian was killed when they were struck by a car on the outskirts of Galway City,The incident happened on the Galway/Moycullen road at around 8pm.

मोर्चा र सरकारबीच 'निर्णायक' वार्ता हुँदै

मधेशी मोर्चा र सरकारबीच अहिले प्रधानमन्त्री निवास बालुवाटारमा हुने वार्ता निर्णायक हुने तथा सहमति बन्न सक्ने सात दलका एक नेताले बताएका छन् । 
सरकार र मधेशी मोर्चाबीच फागुन १६ गते दिउँसो प्रधानमन्त्री निवास बालुवाटारमा वार्ता हुने भएको छ । बालुवाटारमा अहिले जारी तीन प्रमुख दलका शीर्ष नेताहरुको बैठकपछि मधेशी मोर्चा र सरकारबीच वार्ता हुनलागेको हो । मधेशी मोर्चासँग अहिले हुने वार्ता निश्कर्षमा पुग्नसक्ने सम्भावना बेशी रहेको बालुवाटारमा जारी शीर्ष नेताहरुको बैठकमा सहभागी एमाले स्थायी समिति सदस्य झलनाथ खनालले बताए ।
तर, अर्को बिश्वस्त सुत्रले भने हिजो गृहमन्त्री कृष्णप्रसाद सिटौला र मोर्चाबीचको वार्ताले पारेको सकारात्मक प्रभावका कारण मोर्चा र सरकारबीच तत्कालै सहमति हुने स्थिति बनिसकेको छ । सुत्रले केही बेरमै मोर्चाका नेता बालुवाटार जाने र सहमतिमा हस्ताक्षर हुने बतायो । सहमतिमा सरकारतर्फबाट प्रधानमन्त्रीले हस्ताक्षर गर्ने वा शान्ति तथा पुनर्निमाण मन्त्रीले हस्ताक्षर गर्नेमा भने अझै बिबाद बाँकि रहेको श्रोतको दावी छ । नेपाली सेनामा मधेशीको सामुहिक भर्नाको माग तीन प्रमुख दलले स्विकारेको पनि श्रोतले उल्लेख गर्‍यो । तर, बालुवाटारमा जारी बैठकमा सहभागी एमाले नेता खनालले भने सेनामा सामूहिक भर्ना सम्बन्धी मोर्चाको मागलाई तीन दलले नस्विकारेको बताए । । खनालले सेनालाई समावेशी बनाउने शब्द उल्लेख गर्न तीन दल तयार भएको बताए । 'मोर्चासँग अहिले यहीँ हुने वार्ताले निश्कर्ष निकाल्ने छ' खनालले भने ।
एक सातादेखि जारी मधेशी मोर्चा र सरकारबीचको वार्ताले पछिल्लो समयमा ८ बुँदे सहमति तयार पारेको थियो । तर, सहमतिमा सरकारतर्फबाट कसले हस्ताक्षर गर्ने भन्ने बिबादका कारण फागुन १४ गते मोर्चा र सरकारबीच भएको वार्ता बिना निश्कर्ष समाप्त भएको थियो । फागुन १५ गतेको वार्तामा मोर्चाले नेपाली सेनामा मधेशीहरुको सामूहिक भर्नाको माग थपेको थियो ।

काठमाडौँ - नेवारको राष्ट्रिय सङ्गठन नेवाः देय दवूले आसन्न संविधानसभाको निर्वाचनबारे गाउँ-गाउँमा चेतना प्रवाह गर्न पुनः अभियान थाल्ने भएको छ । यसअघि संविधानसभाबारे जनमानसले के बुझेका छन्- कसरी जान सकिन्छ, आदिबारे नेवार बाहुल्य क्षेत्रको २५ वटा जिल्लामा डाटा सङ्कलन गरिसकिएको दोस्रो चरणको अभियानअर्न्तर्गत प्रत्यक्ष र समावेशीय निर्वाचनमा कसरी सहभागिता हुने, संविधानसभाको निर्वाचन र विगतको निर्वाचनमा के भिन्नता आदिबारे अन्तक्रिर्या छलफल र प्रवचनका माध्यमबाट जानकारी गराइने बताइएको छ ।

ठूला अपहरणकारी पक्राउ

काठमाडौं- भारतको मुर्म्बईमा अपहरणको योजना बनाई नेपालका धनाढय, उद्योगपति, व्यापारी, डाक्टरलगायतका वर्गलाई अपहरण गरी करोडौं रुपियाँ फिरौती रकम उठाउने गिरोहलाई प्रहरीले बुधबार र्सार्वजनिक गरेको छ ।

हावामा धूलो बढ्यो

काठमाडौं - चौध महिनादेखि वायुमा धूलोको मात्रा बढ्न थालेको तथ्य बुधबार र्सार्वजनिक भएको छ । हावामा दस माइक्रो ग्रामभन्दा साना धूलोका कणको मात्रा बढेको र यसले स्वास्थ्यमा अझ बढी असर पार्ने विज्ञहरूले चेतावनी दिएका छन् ।
'वायुको स्तर सुधार हु“दै गएको देखेर हामी सबै ढुक्क थियौं । एक वर्षता खस्किन थालेको छ,' वातावरण तथा जनस्वास्थ्य संस्था -इन्फो) का कार्यकारी निर्देशक भूषण तुलाधरले अध्ययन प्रतिवेदन र्सार्वजनिक गर्दै भने । उक्त प्रतिवेदन वातावरण मन्त्रालयअर्न्तर्गत उपत्यकाका छ स्थानमा बनाइएका वायु प्रदूषण मापन केन्द्रबाट प्राप्त तथ्यांकका आधारमा तयार गरिएको हो ।
वायु प्रदूषणले निम्त्याउने श्यावप्र्र्रश्वाससम्बन्धी रोगबाट उपत्यकामा १६ सयको मृत्यु हुने गरेको अनुमान वातावरण मन्त्रालयको छ । अस्पतालहरूमा श्वासप्रश्वास, छाला र आ“खाका रोगीको संख्या बढेको छ । पर्यटकहरूमा“झ गरिएका र्सर्वेक्षणले पनि 'वायु प्रदूषण' लाई ठूलो समस्याका रूपमा औंल्याएका छन् । उपत्यकाको वायुको स्तर विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठनको मापदण्ड -२० माइक्रोग्राम प्रतिघनमिटर) भन्दा छ गुणा बढी खराब छ । राष्ट्रिय मापदण्ड -१ सय २० माइक्रोग्राम प्रतिघनमिटर) को हाराहारीमा छ ।
तथ्यांकअनुसार सन् २००३ देखि सुधार हुदै आएको वायुको स्तर २००५ मा ह्वात्तै खस्किएको थियो । ००६ मा केही सुधार भए पनि सन् २००७ देखि स्तर खस्किने क्रम जारी छ ।

12 more TV channels in pipeline in Nepal

KATHMANDU - Indefinite bandas, chakkajams and curfews have taken a continuous toll on Nepali industry. Figures show that there has been no significant industrial growth as the country is still reeling under unstable political conditions even after the end of the decade-long Maoist insurgency.
However, the media industry, which in itself largely depends on other industries, is booming in Nepal. Newspapers and FM radio stations are already in their thousands and hundreds respectively in the country. Latest statistics show that now it is the television industry's turn and Nepali society is entering the televisual age with a vengeance.
According to the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC), there are a dozen more satellite TV channels in the pipeline. Many of them are preparing to reach the market within months.
Seven TV channels -- Nepal Television (NTV), NTV-2, Kantipur Television, Image, Channel Nepal, Avenues, and Sagarmatha -- are already in operation. Nepal 1, though not registered in Nepal, is one more channel run for Nepali audiences. Image Channel has bought the license of Shangri-La Satellite Television and has been using it for satellite transmissions.
Almost all the TV channels in operation so far in the country are largely based on news and current affairs.
Media promoters have been concentrating on news-oriented channels as on average over 60 percent of the total revenue comes from advertisements aired during news and current affairs, according to Ranjeet Acharya, Chief Executive Officer of Prisma Advertising.
The situation in India is, however, just the opposite. Indian TV channels earn substantially higher from entertainment programs than from news products, according to Joydeb Chakravarty, Managing Director of Thompson Nepal. A group of media and TV personalities including music director Shambhujit Baskota and film editor Narendra Khadka is preparing to launch NNTV (Namaste Nepali TV) within a couple of months. The channel will focus totally on entertainment, sports, idle-shows and talk-shows.

"Main targets of this channel will be non-resident Nepalis (NRNs) and other Nepali communities spread over several countries," Khadka informed. It also has plans to establish collaboration with Indian or any other international channels.
Similarly, a group of engineers has teamed up to launch Moonlight Television that will mainly focus its programs on development activities, according to Director of Model City and Technology Development, Krishna Prasad Sharma, who is also one of the promoters of the channel. "We will initiate debates, through the channel, over issues like models of development in the days to come," he added. Housing and construction companies and I/NGOs active in the field of development will constitute its target audience and advertisers, according to Sharma. Beginning with six hours at first, the channel will later run round the clock.Sanjay Adhikari of ABC TV, however, said, "Let us do something first before making publicity."
TV channels in Nepal are already walking a tightrope, as there has been no growth of other industries in recent days. "No new product has been launched in the market for the last 10 months," said Acharya. "New channels will have to share the same pie unless they come up with an innovative idea or find some fresh sector."
Unless there is a new revolution in the entertainment sector, there is no possibility of improvement in generation of more revenue from advertisements, according to Acharya.
Expansion of the cable network is not good news either for Nepali channels because foreign channels can reach Nepali kitchens and drawing rooms directly through cable. "Then multinational companies think there is no more a need to provide advertisements to Nepali channels," Acharya said. The increasing trend of using hoarding boards in urban areas is another headache for local channels as advertisers allocate money for that also from the same advertising budget, according to him.
Chakravarty hopes that an increasing number of TV channels would promote competition, quality of service and more scientific costing.
Pointing out shortcomings in Nepali media, he stated that at present Nepali TV channels lack diversity. "Their programs replicate each other," he added.
Presence of very few fast moving consumer goods (FMCGs) in the market is a problem for Nepali media. Similarly, the same handful of old advertisers remain the big players in the market, according to Chakravarty.
Transmission charges for television channels seeking a license range from Rs 350,000 for 500 watt capacity to Rs 1.2 million for 10 KW.

The channels have to pay 110 percent of the amount as renewal charges annually. Also, both satellite and terrestrial channels have to pay 5,000 rupees as application charge to the government.

Dublin's Pearse Street closed because of unsafe Building

Dublin- Dublin's Pearse street has been closed after the city council declared a building there unsafe and dangerous.Gardai are advising motorists that traffic coming from Grand Canal Street is being diverted along the Canal towards Leeson Street. Traffic coming into the city along Pearse Street is being diverted via Macken Street, the Canal and Leeson Street.

Irish broadband three times slower than rest of EU

Dublin- Fine Gael says major problems with broadband services in Ireland are causing serious difficulties for businesses.The party says broadband in Ireland is three times slower than the rest of the EU, yet it is also more expensive.Spokesperson Deirdre Clune says the problem is particularly bad outside of Dublin and is a serious impediment to doing business in this country.

Dublin city centre streets re-opened

Dublin- A number of streets in Dublin city centre were re-opened to traffic this evening.Pearse Street and Lombard Street were closed down this afternoon after a steel sheet from the roof of a building on Pearse Street was blown onto the street.Inspectors from the 'Dangerous Building' section of Dublin City Council then cordoned off the building in an effort to make it safe, and traffic diversions were put in place.All streets in the area were later re-opened to traffic, but motorists were being advised to avoid the south city centre if possible due to knock-on traffic delays.

Man killed for refusing to buy alcohol for minors

Dublin- A Polish man who was stabbed in the head last Saturday night in was murdered because he refused to buy alcohol from an off-licence for a teenage couple.
The 30-year-old died yesterday afternoon after a screwdriver was used to puncture his skull and was driven straight into his brain. Another man - the dead man's house mate - is gravely ill after being stabbed in the throat and suffering head injuries in the brutal attack.

Dublin rail services disrupted by hoax bomb alert

Dublin- Rail services at Connolly Station have been disrupted this morning due to a hoax bomb scare. Army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on a device found on the rail lines, but the incident was later declared to be a hoax. The station has now reopened and services are expected to get back to normal quite quickly.

लोकदोहोरी कास्कीलाई

पाल्पा- राष्ट्रिय लोक तथा दोहोरी प्रतियोगितामा कास्कीको समूह पहिलो भएको छ । औद्योगिक व्यापार मेला एवं पर्यटन महोत्सवको अन्तिम दिन शनिबार आयोजित फाइनलमा राष्ट्रिय लोक तथा दोहोरीगीत प्रतिष्ठान, कास्कीले धादिङको समूहलाई पछि पार्‍यो ।
दुवै समूहले पुरस्कारबापत क्रमशः २० हजार र १५ हजार पाए । तेस्रो स्थानमा परेका राष्ट्रिय लोक तथा दोहोरीगीत प्रतिष्ठान, रूपन्देही र सुनौलो संगम सांस्कृतिक समूह, काठमाडौंले १० हजार रुपैया“ बा“डे । प्रतियोगितामा १६ समूहले भाग लिएका थिए । उद्योग वाणिज्य संघद्वारा आयोजित महोत्सवमा शनिबारै खुल्ला लोकनृत्य प्रतियोगिता पनि गरियो । यसमा तिलोत्तमा मावि रूपन्देही) पहिलो, न्यु होराइजन मावि -तानसेन, पाल्पा) दोस्रो तथा तानसेन गैरागाउ“ र विशालबजारको समूह तेस्रो भए ।

SPA, UDMF finally reach deal

KATHMANDU - The government and the protesting United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) struck a crucial deal Monday morning ending the 12-day Madhes movement and clearing the deck for Constituent Assembly elections slated for April 10.
The two sides reached compromise on the key UDMF demand - One Madhes One Pradesh - which they said would be decided through the Constituent Assembly. They have agreed to form autonomous Madhes state and other autonomous states. However, both sides were struggling till 3 am Monday on proper words to be mentioned in the draft.
"We have agreed on autonomous Madhes state. But we are still discussing proper words to reflect the desire of Madhesi people regarding the autonomous Madhes state," said Hridayesh Tripathi, a Madhesi leader, who was present during the meeting, held at prime minister's residence, Baluwatar.
The government and UDMF have also agreed to recognize all those killed in the course of the Madhes movement last February as martyrs and provide their families with proper compensation. They have agreed to amend the Election Commission Act, which provisions that any political party which secures at least 20 percent result or more under the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) system must prepare an inclusive list of candidates for the proportional electoral system.
"We have agreed to increase the provision from 20 to 30 percent," said Tripathi. The UDMF had demanded that the provision should be increased to 50 percent. He said the final draft of the agreement will be ready by Monday morning.
Jayaprakash Gupta, coordinator of Madhesi People's Rights Forum (MPRF), a constituent of the UDMF, said, "It is a big setback to tarai movement because the agreement is not constitutionally binding." He said the government didn't agree to incorporate the issue in the constitution. "The Constituent Assembly will not have legal powers to recognize the tarai as autonomous Madhes state," he said. He said the government also refused to make group recruitment of Madhesi people in the Nepali Army.
The UDMF had called an indefinite strike in the tarai from February 13 demanding that the government fulfill their six-point demand. Earlier today, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and Maoist Chairman Prachanda had held a separate meeting at Baluwatar and reiterated their commitment to conduct the CA poll on April 10.
The three leaders had also agreed to persuade UDMF to participate in the CA poll to decide the issue of one Madhes one Pradesh. Following the Baluwatar meeting, UML General Secretary and Maoist Chairman Prachanda held a separate meeting at the UML central office in Balkhu and discussed the issue. After developments in Kathmandu, the government arranged a helicopter to bring Upendra Yadav, MPRF chairman, from Simara Sunday evening.
Yadav and other Madhesi leaders including UDMF chairman Mahantha Thakur and Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato held a special meeting at about 11 pm before sitting for a formal meeting with the government at Baluwatar. Prime Minister Koirala and Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula held negotiation with Madhesi leaders.
Meanwhile, NC leaders Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar and Saratsingh Bhandari have urged the government to settle the Madhes issues soon. In a press statement, jointly issued Sunday, the leaders said the CA poll is not possible without addressing the issues of Madhesi political parties. The leaders, however, are not so clear on the issue of one Madhes, one Pradesh.
Similarly, Rastriya Prajantra Party (RPP), in a separate statement, demanded that the government immediately hold a roundtable to address the issues raised by Madhesi, Tharu and other indigenous leaders.

Irish links to two Oscar awards

Dublin- Glen Hansard is celebrating after picking up the Oscar for Best Original Song overnight.
The Frames singer shares the award with his partner Marketa Irglova, for their performance of the song 'Falling Slowly' from the movie Once.
Speaking to the breakfast show a short time ago, Glen Hansard described the win as a real victory for independent film. Elsewhere Irish Resident Daniel Day Lewis picked up the Oscar for best actor, for his role in 'There Will be Blood'.

पेट्रोलियम वितरण गर्ने पम्प निर्धारण

काठमाडौं - नेपाल आयल निगमले जोरबिजोर प्रणालीबाट पेट्रोलियम पदार्थ वितरण गर्न काठमाडौंमा पम्पहरू तोकेको छ । निगमले २७ वटा पम्पबाट पेट्रोल बिक्री गर्ने भएको छ भने डिजेलका लागि ३४ वटा पम्प तोकेको छ ।

निगमको वितरण विभागप्रमुख मुकुन्द ढुंगेलका अनुसार आज सोमबार बिजोर नम्बर भएका सवारीसाधनहरूलाई पेट्रोल र डिजेल वितरण गरिनेछ । निगमले पेट्रोलियम डिलर्सहरूसँग छलफल गरेर मोटरसाइकलमा पेट्रोल भर्न सातवटा पम्प तोकेको छ । निगम अधिकारीका अनुसार सेनाको भद्रकाली पम्प, पुल्चोकस्थित साझा पेट्रोलपम्प, प्रहरीको नक्सालस्थित पम्प, र्सूयविनायक आयल सल्लाघारी, शक्तिदेवी लगनखेल, सशस्त्र प्रहरीको न्यु बगलामुखी आयल छाउनी र मध्यपुर आयल ठिमीलगायत सात स्थानबाट मोटरसाइकललाई पेट्रोल बिक्री गरिनेछ ।

सेना, सशस्त्र प्रहरी र साझा पम्पबाट कुपनवाला गाडीलाई समेत पेट्रोल बिक्री हुनेछ । त्यस्तै निजी कारका लागि नौवटा र टयाक्सीका लागि १० वटा पम्पबाट पेट्रोल बिक्री हुनेसमेत निगम अधिकारीले जानकारी दिएका छन् । निगमले बसका लागि १०, ट्रकका लागि ६ र माइक्रोबसका लागि १० वटा पम्प डिजेल भर्नका लागि तोकेको छ । तोकिएका पम्पभन्दा अन्यत्र गएमा पेट्रोलियम पदार्थ नपाइनेसमेत निगम अधिकारीहरूले बताएका छन् । निगमले अत्यावश्यकीय सेवाका क्षेत्रहरू, अस्पताल, डेरी, दूरसञ्चार सेवा, खानेपानी, फोहोरमैला, बैंकिङ, सञ्चारमाध्यम, तारेहोटलहरू, शववाहन, अक्सिजन प्लान्ट, ³याचरी, औषधि, एअरलाइन्स, कार्गो व्यवसाय, औषधि उत्पादक, शैक्षिक संस्था, छात्रावास, र्सार्वजनिक सवारीसाधन, कूटनीतिक नियोग, निर्वाचनको कामलाई भने निगम र डिलर्स एसोसिएसनद्वारा संयुक्त रूपमा सञ्चालित टेकुस्थित पम्पबाट डिजेल र पेट्रोल उपलब्ध गराउने भएको छ ।

उता निगमले आइतबार २ लाख ९६ हजार किलोलिटर पेट्रोल, ३ लाख ४८ हजार लिटर डिजेल र ९२ हजार लिटर मट्टीतेल भित्र्याएको छ । तर निगमको थानकोटस्थित डिपोले भने ४८ हजार लिटर पेट्रोल, १ लाख ५६ हजार लिटर डिजेल र ३६ हजार लिटर मट्टीतेल मात्र वितरण गरेको छ । निगमले आजबाट जोरबिजोर प्रणाली र कोटा लगाउने भएपछि हिजो आइतबार पर्याप्त मात्रामा पेट्रोलियमको आपूर्ति डिलर्सहरूलाई नगरेको हो । निगमले मोटरसाइकललाई ५ सय, निजी कारलाई ८ सय, टयाक्सीलाई १ हजार ५ सय रुपियाँबराबरको पेट्रोल मात्र एक पटकमा दिने गरी कोटा निर्धारण गरेको छ भने डिजेलतर्फशैक्षिक संस्थाका लागि १ हजार, भाडाको गाडीलाई २ हजार र लामो दूरीको गाडीलाई ३ हजार रुपियाँसम्मको उपलब्ध गराउनेछ ।

"कुनै हालतमा एसएलसी रोकिँदैन"

काठमाडौं- तराई बन्दका कारण चैत ४ गतेदेखि सञ्चालन हुने एसएलसी परीक्षाका लागि पाँच जिल्लाको आवेदन फाराम अझै नआइपुगेको परीक्षा नियन्त्रण कार्यालयले जनाएको छ । आवेदन फाराम नआइपुगेका कारण केही समस्या हुन सक्ने बताउँदै तत्काल आवेदन फाराम ल्याउन सम्बन्धित जिल्लामा पत्राचार गरिसकिएको उपनियन्त्रक गोपाल भट्टराईले नेपाल समाचारपत्रलाई बताउनुभयो ।

बन्दका कारण महोत्तरी, पर्सा, रौतहट, धनुषा र बर्दियाको आवेदन फाराम आउन सकेको छैन । तराई बन्द भए तापनि एसएलसी परीक्षा हुने जिकिर गर्दै उपनियन्त्रक भट्टराईले सम्पूर्ण तयारी पूरा भइसकेको बताउनुभयो । पनिकाका अनुसार यस वर्षको परीक्षामा १ हजार २ सय ९९ परीक्षाकेन्द्र रहेका छन् । गत वर्ष १ हजार १ सय ८६ परीक्षाकेन्द्र थिए । यस वर्ष १ सय १३ वटा परीक्षाकेन्द्र थप गरिएको छ।शिक्षा तथा खेलकुद मन्त्रालयका प्रवक्ता लवप्रसाद त्रिपाठीले परीक्षा स्थगित नहुने बताउनुभएको छ ।

यसका लागि मोटरसाइकल, ट्याक्सी, निजीकार र भाडाका सवारीसाधनलाई छुट्टाछुट्टै पेट्रोल पम्पमार्फ जोर/बिजोर प्रणालीअर्न्तर्गत इन्धन वितरण गरिनेछ भने अत्यावश्यक सवारीसाधनलाई छुट्टै पम्प निर्धारण गरिने बताइएको छ । आपूर्ति व्यवस्थालाई सरलीकृत गर्ने, मोटरसाइकललाई एकपटकमा पाँच सय रुपियाँ, कारलाई आठ सय, ट्याक्सी तथा भाडाका सवारीलाई एक हजार पाँच सय रुपियाँसम्मको इन्धन उपलब्ध गराउने भएको छ । त्यसैगरी शैक्षिक संस्थालाई एक हजार रुपियाँको र लामो दूरीका लागि बढीमा तीन हजार रुपियाँसम्मको मात्र इन्धन उपलब्ध गराउने छ ।

माओवादीले सबै उम्मेदवार छान्यो

काठमाडौं - नेकपा -माओवादी)ले चैत २८ गते हुने संविधानसभा निर्वाचनका लागि २४० क्षेत्रकै प्रत्यक्ष उम्मेदवारको नाम सार्वजनिक गरेको छ । जसअनुसार माओवादीका प्रचण्ड, बाबुराम भट्टराई, बादल, महरालगायतले सुरक्षित क्षेत्र रोजेका छन् भने वनमन्त्री मातृका यादवलाई उम्मेदवार छानिएको छैन ।

वैदेशिक रोजगारीमा जाने बढे

काठमाडौं - कामका लागि विदेशिनेको संख्या पछिल्लो सात महिनामा उल्लेख्यरूपमा बढेको छ ।
चालू आवको पहिलो सात महिनामा कामको खोजीमा बाहिरिनेको संख्या १ लाख ३२ हजार ८ सय १२ पुगेको श्रम तथा रोजगार प्रवर्द्धन विभागले जनाएको छ । यो अघिल्लो वर्षो १ लाख ४ हजार ६ सय ६ को तुलनामा २७ प्रतिशत बढी हो ।
यस अवधिमा कतार र संयुक्त अरब इमिरेट्स (यएइ) मा जानेको संख्या ८९ प्रतिशतले बढेर क्रमशः ५० हजार १ सय ३८ र २० हजार ३३ पुगेको छ । साउदी अरेविया जानेको संख्या ३० प्रतिशतले बढेर २४ हजार ५४ पुगेको विभागको तथ्यांकमा छ ।
अघिल्लो वर्षम्म प्रमुख रोजगार गन्तव्यका रूपमा रहदै आएको मलेसियातर्फजानेको संख्या भने यस अवधिमा घटेको छ । तथ्यांकअनुसार गत आवको सात महिनामा ४२ हजार ६ सय २१ जना मलेसिया गएकोमा यस वर्ष२८ हजार १ सय १८ मात्र गएका छन् । यो ३४ प्रतिशतको गिरावट हो । कम पारिश्रमिक, रोजगार असुरक्षा लगायत कारणले त्यसतर्फजानेको संख्या घटेको सम्बद्ध व्यवसायी बताउछन् ।
मासिक आधारमा माघमा मात्रै २१ हजार ८ सय १८ वैदेशिक रोजगारमा गएका छन्, यसमध्ये ६ सय ६३ व्यक्तिगत प्रयासमा बाहिरिएका हुन् । गत वर्षमाघमा म्यानपावर एजेन्सीमार्फ र व्यक्तिगत प्रयासमा १९ हजार ४ सय ६७ रोजगारीका लागि गएका थिए ।
पछिल्लो समयमा रोजगारीका लागि पहिलो रोजाई बनेको कतारमा ७ हजार १ सय १५, साउदी अरबमा ४ हजार ९ सय ६२ र यूएइमा ३ हजार ९ सय २९ गएका छन् ।
द्विपक्षीय श्रम सम्झौतापछि यूएइ जानेको संख्यामा उल्लेख्य सुधार आएको
विभागको तथ्यांकमा छ । मलेसियातर्फमाघमा ४ हजार ४ सय ८६ गएका छन् ।

Average Irish worker spends 2.5 hours commuting everyday

Dublin- Irish workers spend an average of almost two-and-a-half hours commuting every day, according to the convenience store Centra.

The company says commuting times have increased by 16% over the past five years and the average commuter now spends 23 days every year travelling to and from work. People living outside Dublin, but working in the capital, spend the longest periods commuting. 55% of Dublin and Munster residents blame increased traffic volumes for their longer commutes, while people in Connacht and Ulster say that poor infrastructure is the main cause of their long treks.

Irish Parents to get online safety advice

Dublin- Parents will be advised on how to keep their children safe online during a seminar today।It comes after a survey revealed 70% of young people used social networking sites yet fewer than half of all parents are familiar with them. The seminar will feature John Carr, an international expert on social networking and advisor to the UK government, and Bebo chief safety officer Dr Rachel O’Connell.

Parents will be able to talk to young people using such sites on a daily basis who will demonstrate how they work. The seminar comes amid growing concerns about the popularity of social networking sites, which children’s support campaigners claim can leave young people vulnerable to paedophiles if they post too much personal information. Concerns have also been expressed about suicide pacts being formed through websites. It will run from 8.30am to 10am in Dublin’s Conrad Hotel.

पूर्वमन्त्री पुनको निधन

पूर्वमन्त्री नारायणसिंह पुनको उपचारका क्रममा नया“दिल्लीमा बिहीबार निधन भएको छ ।
लामो समयदेखि मृगौला रोगबाट पीडित ५९ वषर्ीय पुन विगत तीन महिनादेखि नया“दिल्लीमा उपचाररत थिए । उनको मृगौला प्रत्यारोपणपछि 'इन्फेक्सन' भएको थियो । उनी समता पार्टर्ीीध्यक्ष समेत थिए ।

पुन एक दशकदेखि नेपाली राजनीतिमा प्रवेश गरेका थिए । त्यसअघि उनी सेनाको हेलिप्टर चालक -प्रमुख सेनानी) थिए । २०५६ सालको आम निर्वाचनमा पुन म्याग्दी जिल्लाबाट सांसदमा निर्वाचित भएका थिए । पुनले पछि २०५९ सालमा समता पार्टीका अध्यक्ष भएका थिए ।
पुन सेनाबाट अवकाशपछि राजनीति र समाजसेवामा लागे । उनी माओवादीसग वार्ता गर्न सरकारी टोलीमा रही सक्रिय भूमिका खेले । उनी कांग्रेसबाट म्याग्दीबाट निर्वाचित सांसदसमेत थिए । पुनले नेपाली कांग्रेस परित्याग गरी आफ्नै अध्यक्षतामा पार्टी गठन गरेका हुन् ।

Air strike could hit up to 90,000 passengers

Dublin- It is estimated that up to 90,000 passengers could have their travel plans disrupted by next Thursday's 24-hour strike by air traffic controllers at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports.
The Labour Court has invited the Irish Aviation Authority and air traffic controllers to talks on Monday in an attempt to avert next week's threatened industrial action.
The controllers have decided to hold the strike on 28 February at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports in a dispute over staffing levels, rosters and overtime. Speaking on RTÉ Radio's News At One, Irish Aviation Authority HR Director Liam Kavanagh said there will be no air services if air traffic controllers do not work on Thursday-week.
It is expected that both sides will agree to attend the Labour Court. IMPACT Communications Officer Niall Shanahan said it would be the union's intention to attend the meeting to try and resolve the outstanding issues. Air traffic controllers say their dispute with the IAA centres on staff shortages causing excessive overtime. However, the IAA insists the row is about rosters and payment for overtime.

Ó Searcaigh's poems may be removed from syllabus

Dublin- The work of poet Cathal Ó Searcaigh is to remain on the Leaving Cert curriculum for the next two years, but an advisory body to Minister for Education Mary Hanafin may remove his material from future exams.
Ms Hanafin told the Dáil yesterday she was "shocked and appalled" by what she had "read in the newspapers" concerning the poet, who is the subject of a new documentary film, Fairytale of Kathmandu. The film accompanies the poet to Nepal to film his education projects, but goes on to express concern about his relationship with young men there.
Questioned in the Dáil by Fine Gael education spokesman Brian Hayes about "the appropriateness or otherwise" of Ó Searcaigh's poetry remaining on the Leaving Cert syllabus, Ms Hanafin said the issue was "complex and must be considered carefully and in a measured way".
She said that in any event she was due to receive advice shortly from the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment.
"There might be questions about the character of many people whose literature has been on courses for the past 100 years," she said. "This is different, however, because it is a current case involving a person living in this country. Students must answer one question about the poet, which could cause difficulty."
She emphasised, however, that Ó Searcaigh's poems were on the prescribed list for the 2008 and 2009 Leaving Cert examinations, and "as students may already have done considerable work on them, it would be unfair to change the list at this stage".
The NCCA will, as a matter of course, review the Irish syllabus for exams from 2010 and decide what texts should be prescribed. Last night NCCA chief executive Anne Looney said the issue of Ó Searcaigh's inclusion on the Leaving Cert course would be considered when the council holds its regular monthly meeting in March.
It is widely expected in education circles, however, that the Irish syllabus committee of the NCCA will remove Ó Searcaigh from the list of prescribed poets.
Ms Hanafin stressed she would have no role in this process.
"I do not know of any situation, nor would any be desirable, in which a minister for education and science would determine what should be on the course. If that was the case, we could all interfere with the syllabus."
In a statement yesterday Ó Searcaigh said if his gay lifestyle and relationships in Nepal had offended anyone, he was sorry, but to suggest he had in any way coerced or preyed upon young men was "untrue and distasteful".
He said he had considered deeply the opinions of his critics and he could see how his actions "could have been misinterpreted".

UDMF agrees to call off agitation; agreement with SPA likely today

KATHMANDU - On the seventh day of the indefinite Terai shutdown, one of the strike organisers, United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) has decided to find outlet to the Madhesi crisis through dialogue while continuing peaceful and non-violent agitation.
The senior leaders of the agitating Madhesi group UDMF, an alliance of Terai-Madhes Democratic Party (TMDF), Nepal Sadhbhawana Party (NSP) and Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF), reached a conclusion during a meeting held in the capital today to prepare for the upcoming informal talks with the Seven Party Alliance (SPA).
According to sources, the government has agreed to publicise its stance on its 6-point demand during the informal talks due to be held today.
With the SPA’s approval Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala will issue a statement mentioning the elected Constituent Assembly will finalise the demand of autonomous Madhes province, a UDMF source informed.
The demand for right to self-determination will be replaced by the agenda of Madhes right in a written form, the UDMF source added.
The UDMF has also agreed to call off the ongoing Madhes agitation, the source revealed.
After the talks due to be held this afternoon between the two sides, the initial agreements are expected to be formalised.
TMDP chairman Mahanta Thakur informed that the talks will be held at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala’s official residence at Baluwatar in the capital this afternoon.
Informal consultations will take place between the PM and the senior leaders of UDMF after the talks between the seven ruling parties and the Front’s talks committee are held, he added.
UDMF had called for an indefinite strike in the Terai region from February 13 putting forth a 6-point demand including the autonomous Madhes province with right to self-determination.
On Monday UDMF put forward other demands including immediate end to suppression of Madhes agitation, free treatment of those injured during the protests and unconditional release of those detained by police during the ongoing Madhes agitation.
The UDMF agreed to talks with the government after the Home Ministry Monday evening instructed security personnel mobilised in the Terai region to restrain themselves and assured that all the demands put forth by the Front will be fulfilled.
The Home Ministry also expressed commitment to release the political prisoners of the Terai agitation, to drop all the charges against UDMF activists and to provide appropriate relief to the injured and compensation to the family of those killed during the agitation.
In a press statement today, the UDMF said that it expected the government to fulfill its commitment at the earliest.

Democracy Day observed nationwide in Nepal

KATHMANDU - The 58th Democracy Day is being observed Tuesday across the country by recalling the selfless sacrifices of all known and unknown martyrs of the democratic movement.
This day, 7th of Falgun, is observed annually to mark the end to a 104-year long tyrannical Rana regime since 1951 AD and the dawn of democracy in the country.
A special programme is being organised at the Army grounds in Tundikhel to mark the occasion while another programme was held at Sahid Gate in the capital to pay tributes to the martyrs.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, who is also the chairman of the Democracy Day main function organising committee, is organizing a programme at ‘Sital Niwas’ in the capital this afternoon.
In a message to the people on the occasion, the Prime Minister appealed to everyone to make the Constituent Assembly polls slated for April 10 a success. He said that the CA was essential to institutionalise the democracy to establish peace and to create mechanism for an inclusive nation.

In a statement on the occasion, King Gyanendra extended wishes that the current effort to bolster goodwill among all Nepalis while keeping sovereignty, nationality and freedom intact.
Meanwhile, a sanitation programme is being held in Sindhuli district to mark the event.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sindhuli Rishikesh Dhitaula said that the sanitation programme was organised to encourage waste-management and cleanliness among the local residents.
Similarly, an interaction programme was held in Ramechhap district to observe Democracy Day.
Speakers at the programme appealed to make the CA a success to protect democracy.

नेपालगन्जमा हिजो दिउँसो २ बजेदेखि लगाइएको अनिश्चितकालीन कफर्यु हटाइएको छैन भने आज बिहान पनि प्रहरीले केही राउन्ड हवाइफायर गरेको छ । आन्दोलनरत पक्ष र प्रहरीबीच भएको झडपमा परी मृत्यु भएका गुलजार खानको शवयात्रा गर्ने फोरमको कार्यक्रम कफर्युले गर्दा हुन सकेन । अत्यन्तै कडा बनाइएको सुरक्षा स्थितिले नेपालगन्जमा मूदाशान्ति छाएको छ । सम्पूण पत्रपत्रिका बन्द रहेका छन् भने अति आवश्यक वस्तुको अभाव भएको छ । यसैबीच हिजोको झडपमा परी गम्भीर घाइते भएका एक आन्दोलनकारीलाई उपचार्रार्थ भारतको लखनउ पठाइएको छ ।

इन्धन हाहाकार, सरकार लत्र्यो

काठमाडौँ - अन्ततः सरकारले पेट्रोलियम पदार्थका विषयमा बहानाबाजी गर्न छाडेको छ । नेपाल सरकारले पेट्रोलियम व्यवस्थापनका लागि जिम्मेवारीको बुझो लगाइदिएको आयल निगमले हात उठाउँदै भनेको छ - अब हामीसँग तेल छँदैछैन।

यसअघि निगमले विभिन्न बहाना बनाएर तेल आपूर्तिको समस्या ढाकछोप गर्नुका साथै आज-भोलि नै र्सवसुलभ गर्ने भन्दै टार्दै आएको थियो । निगमका कार्यकारी निर्देशक दिगम्बर झाले स्पष्ट शब्दमा हामीसँग छँदैछैनँ भन्ने अभिव्यक्ति दिएका छन् । तदनुसार नै आज राजधानीका सडकमा औसतभन्दा ८० प्रतिशत सवारी मात्र गुडेका छन् । हुँदाहुँदा अत्यन्त आपत्कालीन प्रकृतिका दमकल, एम्बुलेन्ससमेत तेल नपाएर थन्किएका छन् ।

निगमले आफनो साख गलेको स्वीकारेको बेला आपूर्ति मन्त्री श्यामसुन्दर गुप्ताले चाहिँ आश्वासनको अर्को किस्सा दिएका छन् सय ट्याङ्कर भारत पठाइएका छन् भोलिसम्ममा आइपुग्छन् । यता फेरि तेलयुक्त ट्याङ्कर तर्राई बन्दका कारण वीरगन्ज काट्न नसकी थन्किएको थाहा भएको छ । इन्धन अभावले जनजीवन अस्तव्यस्त भएको छ । स्कुल, कलेज विद्यार्थी ओसारपसार गर्न नसकी बन्द भएका छन् । होस्टलका विद्यार्थीलाई घर फर्काइएको छ । तेल सकिएका गाडी प्रायः पेट्रोल पम्पअगाडि ट्याङ्कर आउने आशामा तेर्स्याइँदा सडकसमेत ओगटिएको छ । नेपाल यातायात व्यवसायी महासङ्घका अनुसार जम्माजम्मी २० प्रतिशत सवारी मात्र जसोतसो चलेका छन् । यता इन्धन अभावले बजारभाउ आकासिएको छ । खाना पकाउन ग्याँस छैन, सामानको भाउ छोइनसक्नु भएको छ ।

Dublin- Fights in and out of Cork airport will be restricted today as a dispute between air traffic controllers and the Irish Aviation Authority Services will be reduced between 8.30 and 6pm.The controllers are currently refusing to work overtime in protest at what they say are chronic staff shortages.The move has caused disruption at Dublin, Cork and Shannon Airports in recent weeks.Talks will get underway today between the IAA and the trade union IMPACT in an attempt to resolve the dispute.Passengers are advised to contact their airline for further information.

आइरिस कवि क्याथल ओ सिरकेजको चरित्र आर्श्चर्यजनक रूपमा उदांगिएको छ । 'फेरी टेल अफ काठमाडौं' -काठमाडौंको परिकथा) शर्ीष्ाक वृत्तचित्रमा आफूलाई समलिंगी बताउने यी कविले सोझा नेपाली युवाहरूलाई फ“साएको घटना देखाइएको छ ।
काठमाडौंका सरकारी क्याम्पसका १७ वर्षो युवा यी कविको प्रलोभनमा परेका छन् । उनीहरूलाई क्याम्पसको शुल्क, पकेट खर्च र थप लाभांशका रूपमा आयरल्यान्ड घुमाउने लोभ बा“डिएको छ ।
पा“च वर्षता ४० वर्षो क्याथलले कम्तीमा डेढ दर्जन नेपाली किशोरस“ग सर्म्पर्क राखेर शोषण गरेको आयरल्यान्डका द आइरिस टाइम्स, आइरिस इन्डिपेन्डेन्ट, डेली आइरिस मेल, मिररले प्रकाशित गरेका छन् ।
क्याथलका यी कर्तुतको पर्दाफास उनकै सहकर्मी आइरिस महिला चलचित्रकर्मी निशा नी सियानिनले गरेकी हुन् । उनी कविको नेपालीहरूप्रतिको सेवाबारे वृत्तचित्र निमर्ँण गर्न चाहन्थिन्, त्यसैले उनी आफ्नो प्राविधिक टोलीसहित काठमाडौं पुगिन् र क्याथल बसेकै बुद्ध होटलमा बस्न थालिन् ।
होटलका नेपाली म्यानेजरले निशास“ग क्याथलको शंकालु चरित्र, उनको कोठामा भइरहने क्रियाकलाप र नेपाली किशोरस“गको घनिष्ठता जानकारी दिएपछि उनको मनमा चिसो पस्यो । उनले कथावस्तु परिवर्तन गर्ने निर्ण्र्ाागरिन् ।
यी कविका कविता यहा“को माध्यमिक तहको पाठ्यक्रममा समावेश गरिएकाले आइरिसहरूले झट्ट यो समाचारप्रति विश्वास गरेनन् । तर द आइरिस मेलका एक पत्रकार साइमन पेरी काठमाडौं पुगेर स्थलगत रिपोर्ट गरेपछि उनका कर्तुत र्सार्वजनिक हु“दै गएका छन् ।
पेरीले काठमाडौंमा गरेको अनुसन्धानअनुसार सम्बन्ध राख्नकै लागि उनले ठमेलस्थित एक होटलको कोठा छ वर्षेखि भाडामा लिएका थिए । उनी गाउ“बाट काठमाडौंका विभिन्न सरकारी क्याम्पसमा अध्ययन गर्न आएका सोझा किशोरलाई लक्षित गर्थे । पत्रिकाले एक किशोरको भनाइ उद्धृत गरेको छ- 'उसले आयरल्यान्ड लगेर उच्च शिक्षा दिलाउने प्रलोभनमा मजस्ता थुप्रैस“ग अवैध सम्बन्ध राखेको थियो ।'
होटलका म्यानेजरले ती कवि आयरल्यान्ड फर्किएपछि उनको कोठाको तलासी गर्दा पचासभन्दा बढी प्याकेट कन्डम, नीला चलचित्रका सिडी तथा अश्लील पत्रिका भेटिएको बताएका थिए ।
वृत्तचित्र बनाएपछि निर्मात्री निशाले यसको एक प्रति आइरिस अधिकारीलाई दिइन् । अधिकारीलाई वृत्तचित्रको विषयवस्तु विवादास्पद लागेपछि आइरिस प्रहरीलाई खबर गरेका थिए । आइरिस प्रहरीले नेपाल प्रहरीस“ग समेत जानकारी लियो ।
कविले आफू समलिंगी भएको तथा नेपाली किशोरस“ग उनीहरूकै सहमतिमा यौनसर्म्पर्क भएको उल्लेख गरेपछि आइरिस प्रहरी यस विषयमा चनाखो भएका हुन् । नेपालमा रहं“दा आफ्नो होटलमा केही नेपाली किशोरस“ग यौनसम्बन्ध राखेको उनले स्वीकारेका छन् । तर उनको तर्क छ, मैले कसैलाई जबर्जस्ती गरेको छैन, किशोरहरूकै सहमति लिएको छु ।
'हामीले नेपालका अधिकारीस“ग सर्म्पर्क गरेका छौं, आइरिस प्रहरीका प्रवक्ता भन्छन्- 'यस विषयमा नेपालमा अनुसन्धान भइरहेको जानकारी पाएका छौं ।'
क्याथलले वृत्तचित्रमा आफूलाई जुन रूपमा प्रस्तुत गरिएको छ, त्यो अस्पष्ट तथा गलत भएको बताएका छन् । कविले वक्तव्यमार्फ वृत्तचित्र निर्माताहरू इमानदार तथा पारदर्शी नभएको आरोप लगाएका छन् । प्रमुख पात्र कविले भने गत डिसेम्बरमा यो वृत्तचित्र हेरेका थिए । उनले भने- 'यसले मेरो प्रतिष्ठामै आ“च पुर्‍याउ“छ ।'

कवि क्याथल : यौन शोषणको सर्न्दर्भ

अघिल्लो हप्ता 'कान्तिपुर दैनिक'मा एक विदेशी कविबारे एउटा समाचार प्रकाशित भएको थियो, जसको वृत्तिचित्रका क्रममा उनी समलिङ्गी भएको कुरो आएको थियो, उनकै स्वीकारोक्तिसाथ । यो कवि काठमाडौंमा आफ्नो क्रियाकलाप सञ्चालन गर्ने पनि उल्लेख छ । उनी आयरिश कवि हुन् । उनको नाउ“ हो, क्याथल ओ सिरकाइज । यसको सही उच्चारण के हो मलाई स्पष्ट भएन । सिरकाइजै मानौं । क्याथलबारे वृत्तचित्र बनाउने उनकै सहकर्मी निशा जी सियानिनले उनीबारे बनाएको वृत्तचित्र 'फेयरिटेल अफ काठमाडौं'बाट यो बाहिर आएको छापिएको छ ।
यो पढेपछि मलाई अस्कर वाइल्डको सम्झना आएको थियो । वाइल्डको रचना र उनी समलिङ्गी थिए भन्नेसित मैले स“गस“गै परिचित हुने अवसर पाएको थिए“ । विगतका केही साहित्यकारबारे समलैंगिकताको हल्ला चलेकै देखिन्छ । बाइरन, डिसारे, निजिन्स्की आदिका समलैंगिकताका कुरा प्रकाशमा आएकै हो । त्यसैगरी गोरखपुरी, उग्र आदि भारतमा यस्तो हल्लाका पात्रमात्र छैनन्, उनका बारे चुट्किलासमेत बनेका छन् । कोलिन पिल्सनले आफ्नो पुस्तकमा विदेशका यिनीहरूलाई 'मिसफिट्स' भनेर लेेखेका छन् । उनको लेखन अनुसन्धानमूलक हुनाले ती प्रामाणिकै मानिन्छन् ।
माथि उल्लेख गरिएका क्याथल मेरो जानकारीमा आउने अहिलेसम्मका अन्तिम साहित्यकार हुन् । यी आयरिश कविबारे यहा“ कमै जानकारी होला । उनी समलिङ्गी भएको त झन् अहिले थाहा पाइयो । पुराना साहित्यकारका समलैङ्गकि चर्चा सुनिसकेका हुनाले आर्श्चर्य भने लागेन । अहिले त झन् नेपालमा पनि समलैङ्गकि समूहको आवाज पनि सुनि“दैछ । कवि भएकाले उनी बढी विवादमा आए । आफ्नो अप्राकृतिक मानिने वासनाको थलो काठमाडौंलाई बनाएकोमा भने खराब लागिरहेको छ । कस्तो बजार बनाउनथाले यिनीहरूले काठमाडौंलाई - यो प्रश्न र विवशताको फाइदा उठाउने प्रवृत्तिले यँैनशोषणकोे प्रचलन कति वृद्धिमा छ, अनुमान त गर्न सकिन्छ, अनुसन्धान गर्न
भने बा“की छ ।
यही भनेर क्याथल आयरल्यान्डका कस्ता कवि हुन् - उनको कविताका विषय कस्ता छन् भन्ने विषयमाथि केही चर्चा गर्ने उद्देश्य यस लेखमा राखिएको छ-
क्याथल सन् १९९० को दशकको थालनीमै आयरल्यान्डका विशिष्ट र सशक्त आधुनिक समयका कविका रूपमा उदाएका हुन् । प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार लियो डोर्गानको उनका बारेमा विचार छ, 'उनले दृढ अन्तर्रर्ााट्रयतावादद्वारा आयरिश कवितामा नवीन प्रक्रिया र नया“ सम्भावना हाम्रँे समयमा थालिसकेका थिए ।' यो उनले 'काव्ययात्रादेखिको आयरिश कविता' भन्ने लेखनमा व्यक्त गरेका हुन् ।
क्याथललाई उनको कविता संग्रह, जुन द्विमाषिक संग्रह -आयरिश र अंग्रेजी) थियो, 'होम कमिङ'को प्रकाशनपछि अन्तर्रर्ााट्रय ख्यातिको कवि मान्न थालिएको थियो । संग्रह प्रकाशन सन् १९९३ मा भएको थियो । अनि माथिका साहित्यकार डोर्गानको क्याथलबारे अभिव्यक्ति सन् १९९६ मा आएको हो । यसबाट थाहा हुन्छ, क्याथलले आफ्ना कविताका लागि चा“डो ख्याति आर्जित
गरेका थिए ।
उनका विशिष्ट कविताहरू चयन भएर जर्मन र इटालियनमा प्रकाशित भइसकेका छन् । अर्काे एक संग्रह एजे हफ्सद्वारा सम्पादित जुन पmेन्चमा छ, पेरिसको प्रकाशनगृहबाट सन् १९९६ मै छापिइएको छ । अर्काे एक काव्य पुस्तक बार्सिलोनाबाट छापिएको छ ।
क्याथलले विशिष्ट स्थान र समयमा आफ्ना कविता पाठ गरेर पनि निकै ख्याति आर्जित गरेका थिए । विभिन्न स्तरीय कला महोत्सव, पm्याङ्कर्फट पुस्तक मेला आदि पनि त्यसमा सामेल छन् । सन् १९९५ मा उनी एक महत्त्वपर्ूण्ा साहित्यिक पदमा चुनिएका थिए ।
सन् १९९६ मा प्रकाशित उनको एक कविता संग्रहबारे अघि-अघिभन्दा पनि बढी चर्चा भयो । त्यतिखेर आइरिश भाषामा प्रकाशित पुस्तकमा सबभन्दा चर्चित पुस्तकै त्यही भयो । समालोचकहरूले र्'र्सवश्रेष्ठ कविताहरू' भनेर लेखे । अनि क्याथललाई 'अहिले लेखिरहेका हाम्रँ कविहरूमा र्सवश्रेष्ठ' पनि भनेका थिए । एक ठाउ“मा प्रशंसा गरे पनि हाम्रो ध्यानाकर्षा गराउने भने अमेरिकाबाट प्रकाशित हुने 'द साउदर्न रिभ्यु'मा छापिएको छ । उनलाई 'हिष्टिलिङ द इन्टेन्स इमोसन्स अफ सेम-सेक्स लभ'लाई गीतात्मक रूपमा ढाल्नसक्ने कवि पनि भनिएको छ । मैले पढ्दा पनि उनका कवितामा केटाहरूलाई पर्याप्त सम्बोधन छ । एक कविताको सानो अंशको स्वतन्त्र प्रस्तुति जसमा कुनै केटाकै कुरा छ, हेरौं,

यी कविसित मेरो भेट एकेडेमीमा हु“दा दर्ुइपटक भएको थियो । उनी कसैलाई लिएर आएका थिए । दोस्रोपटक भेट्दा उनले मलाई आफ्नो नवीनतम पुस्तक दिएका थिए उपहारमा 'आउट इन द ओपेन' कविता संग्रह । त्यसमा उनले लेखेका छन्, मलाई सम्बोधन गर्दै-

दुवै भेटमा उनी फरासिला, विनम्र र वास्तविक कविजस्ता देखिन्थे । यहा“ छापिएको तस्वीर त्यसैबखत उनले मलाई दिएका हुन् । सम्भवतः पुस्तकबारे पत्रिकामा केही लेख्ने विचार पनि थियो मेरो । त्यसैका लागि तस्वीर दिएका होलान् । लेख्न त लेखियो पनि । तर
पुस्तकबारे होइन, उनीबारे त्यो पनि नराम्रँे मान्दै ।
उनीबारे यो थाहा पाएपछि मेरो मनले पहिलो प्रतिक्रिया दियो, त्यत्रो कवि भेटेको हुनाले होला, त्यस्तो कवि पनि यस्तो हु“दोरहेछ - व्यक्तिगत स्वतन्त्रताले नैतिकताको कुनै बन्धन मान्नर्ुपर्छ कि पर्दैन - यौन स्वतन्त्रताको कुरा बाहिर धेरै उठेको छ । यहा“ पनि हामी गर्ने गर्छर्ाा । यौनमा प्रँकृतिक-अप्राकृतिक केही हु“दैन पनि भन्ने छन् । जसरी लेखनमा 'सेन्सर' हु“दैन भन्ने छन्, त्यस्तै उतातिर यौनमा पनि सेन्सर चाहि“दैन भन्नेहरू छन् ।
उता होस् वा यता, 'सेल्फ-सेन्सरसिप' भन्ने त र्सवमान्य छ, लेखनमा यही भनिन्छ । यौनमा पनि त त्यो हुनर्ुपर्छ, नैतिकतामुक्त यौन हुनुहु“दैन भन्नेहरूकै संख्या बढी छ । प्रँकृतिकमुक्त के हो - समलैङ्गकि आवाज उठिरहेको बेला । यसलाई वर्जनायुक्त मान्ने कि नमान्ने - नमान्ने हो भने ती कविले उनको यो चरित्र देखि“दा उनी नै आफूले किन भने, 'त्यो वृत्तचित्रले मेरो छविमा धक्का पुगेको छ ।'
हामीलाई पछौटे भने पनि हामीकहा“ अहिले 'नैतिकतामुक्त' यौन स्वतन्त्रताको कुरा आउन चाहेको देखि“दैन । उता पनि छैन त्यस्तरी त ।
जस्तरी यी अन्तर्रर्ााट्रयस्तर छोएका कविले गरे । यिनीसित भेट हुने भए प्रश्नहरू गर्थें । तर अब भेट हु“दैन । किनभने अब मै भेट्न रुचाउ“दिन । व्यक्तिगत रूपमा चिनेको मान्छेबाट त्यस्तो भएको मलाई थाहा छैन, कविस्तरमा । त्यसकारण यस्तो घटनाले प्रँयः मलाई उद्वेलित बनाउ“छ र प्रश्न उठाउ“छ ।
तिनै कतिपय प्रश्न अहिले उठिरहेका छन् । (लेखक प्रसिद्ध उपन्यासकार हुन् ।)

तर्राईमा जनजीवन अस्तव्यस्त

काठमाडौं - अनिश्चितकालीन बन्दको पा“चौं दिन पनि तर्राईको जनजीवन कष्टकर भएको छ । यस क्रममा कतिपय जिल्लामा प्रहरी र पर््रदर्शनकारीबीच झडप भएको छ । बन्दका कारण तर्राईमा यातायात ठप्प छ । व्यापार- व्यवसाय र कलकारखाना चल्न सकेका छैनन् । स्कुल-क्याम्पसमा पढाइ अवरुद्ध छ । अस्पतालहरू बन्द हु“दा बिरामीले उपचार पाएका छैनन् ।

काठमाडौँ - वसन्तपुरमा रात्रिबजार हटाइएलगत्तै फुटपाथे बजार पनि व्यवस्थापन गर्न आज साँझ ४ देखि ६ बजेसम्म काठमाडौँ महानगरपालिका र स्थानीय बासिन्दाले विशेष अभियान थाल्ने भएका छन् । काठमाडौँ दरबार क्षेत्र संरक्षण तथा व्यवस्थापन महासमितिले सम्पदा क्षेत्र्रभित्र पर्ने वडा नं.१९, २०, २३ र २५ गरी चार वडाभित्र अनियमित र अव्यवस्थित बजार क्रमशः हटाउँदै विश्वसम्पदा क्षेत्रको संरक्षणमा टेवा पुर्याइने बताइएको छ ।

Overnight M50 roadworks warnings

Dublin- Traffic flows on the M50 overnight during the next two weeks will be disrupted due to roadworks. Road surfacing and tie-in works will take place between the N4 (Palmerstown) interchange and N7 (Red Cow) interchange.
* At the N4 (Palmerstown) interchange, the southbound exit will be closed from midnight on Saturday 16 February until 10am on Sunday 17 February. Motorists are asked to U-turn at the N7 (Red Cow) interchange or use an alternative route. * At the N7 interchange, the two dedicated lanes into the city will be reduced to one lane from 11am on Friday 15 February until 6am on Monday 18 February. Motorists should allow extra time for their journey and slow down and follow the temporary diversion signage in place.

Older but...happier

Dublin- A new survey's revealed we get happier the older we become. The reseach was carried out by Queen's university in Belfast. It found that older people feel little envy for their younger counterparts - however, younger people associate ageing with being miserable .. so they don't see any benefit in preserving their health for their golden years.

Seminar to discuss climate change threat

Politicians, environmentalists and European officials will gather in Dublin today for talks on the threat of climate change.Green Party leader and Minister for the Environment John Gormley will be among those at the European Commission-organised conference.Martin Territt, Director of the European Commission Representation in Dublin, said the public seminar aimed to inform people on how to protect the environment.“Climate change is one of the greatest environmental, social and economic threats facing the world today,” he said.“The warming of our climate system is now evident from the increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global mean sea levels.“It is only through co-operative action that we can address this real threat to lives and livelihoods in all parts of the world, and this is why the European Union has such an important role to play in tackling climate change.”

कतारमा नेपालीलाई भिसा रोक्का

कतार सरकारले तीन सातादेखि नेपाली कामदारलाई भिसा दिनमा रोक लगाएको छ ।
भिसा रोकबारे दोहास्थित नेपाली दूतावास र अन्य निकायमा औपचारिक जानकारी नरहेको भए पनि स्थानीय म्यानपावर व्यवसायीका अनुुसार जनवरी अन्तिम सातादेखि नया“ भिसा दिइएको छैन । दूतावासमा पनि जनवरी दोस्रो सातासम्म पुुरानो मागमा आएका भिसा कागजात मात्रै अनुुमोदन गर्ने काम भइरहेको छ । 'मैले दर्ुर्ुइ दिनअघि पनि गृहमन्त्री सेख अब्दुुल्ला विन नसिर विन खालिफा अल थानीलाई भेटेर यो चासो राखेको थिए“,' राजदूत डा. र्सर्ूयनाथ मिश्रले बिहीबार कान्तिपुुरस“ग भने- 'तर भिसा नरोकिएको जानकारी पाएको छुु ।'
स्रोतका अनुुसार जनवरी २३ यता कतार सरकारले एउटै पनि कामदार भिसा प्रदान गरेको छैन । त्यसअघि जनवरी २१ मा श्रममन्त्री रमेश लेखकले दोहा आएर नेपाल-कतार श्रम सम्झौता गरेका थिए । 'गृहमन्त्रीले सन् २००८ मा एक लाखको संख्यामा कामदार भिसा प्रदान गरिने प्रतिबद्धता दोहोर्‍याउनुुभएको छ,' राजदूत डा. मिश्रले भने । आफूले गृहमन्त्रीलाई भेटेर नेपालबाट दक्ष जनशक्तिसमेत ल्याउनका लागि आवश्यक पहल गर्न आग्रह गरेको बताए ।
अहिले कतारमा २ लाख ६६ हजार नेपाली कामदार रहेको सरकारी तथ्यांक आधारमा नेपालीको बढ्दो संख्यालाई रोक्न केही समयका लागि भिसा रोकिएको हुुनसक्ने स्थानीय उद्यमी डा. डीके डंगोलले बताए । 'यहा“ यस्तो भइरहन्छ,' उनले भने- 'औपचारिक जानकारीबिनै पनि कामदार समायोजनलगायतका प्रक्रिया मिलाउन भिसा रोकिने गरेको छ ।' यसअघि सन् २००६ मा पनि छ महिनाका लागि भिसामा रोक लगाइएको थियो । अझै केही विशिष्ट कम्पनी र तहमा भने फाटफुुट भिसा दिने काम जारी रहेको डंगोलले बताए ।
मिश्रका अनुुसार थानीले नेपाली कामदारको खुुलेर प्रशंसा गरेको र कुुनै हालतमा हडतालमा नउत्रन आग्रह गरेका थिए । खाडी मुुलुुकमध्ये सरकारले सबैभन्दा बढी प्राथमिकतामा राखेको र गन्तव्य रोजगारी स्थलका रूपमा कतार चिनिं“दै आएको छ ।

College selling 'worthless' qualifications for €18,000

Dublin- A Dublin college has reportedly been selling unrecognised qualifications for up to €18,000. Reports this morning say Warnborough College offers courses over the Internet, but the qualifications are not recognised in either Ireland or Britain. The facility is run by foreign businessmen and rents offices at the prestigious All Hallows College in Drumcondra. This morning's reports say All Hallows will not be renewing its rental agreement with Warnborough due to concerns about the college's activities.

काठमाडौं - सातैदल सम्मिलित सरकारी वार्ताटोलीको सार्वजनिक आह्वान र पत्रको अनुरोधलाई संयुक्त मधेसी मोर्चाले तत्काल नटेर्ने भएको छ । मोर्चाले ६ बुँदे माग राखेर आजदेखि आह्वान गरेको आमहड्तालका कारण तराईका थुप्रै जिल्ला प्रभावित बनेका छन् ।

वारा, पर्सा, रौतहट, सिरहा, सर्लाही, सप्तरी, धनुषा, मोरङ, सुनसरी र नेपालगन्जको यातायात, शैक्षिक संस्था, कलकारखाना, बजार आज बिहानैदेखि ठप्प बनेको छ । बन्दले लामो र छोटो दुरीका यातायात चलेका छैनन् भने बजार पनि पूर्णरुपमा बन्द रहेको छन् । आसन्न संविधानसभा निर्वाचनलाई वाधा पुग्नेगरी बन्द हड्तालका कार्यक्रम नगर्न मोर्चालाई अनुरोध गरिए पनि मोर्चाले तत्कालै वार्तामा नआउने जनाएको छ । ६ बुँदे माग पूरा गर्ने निर्णय भएमात्रै मोर्चा वार्तामा आउने अन्यथा वार्ताको औचित्य नरहेको मधेसी आन्दोलनकारी नेताहरुले बताएका छन् । यसैबीच, दुई सातादेखि पेट्रोलियम पदार्थको अभाव भएकोमा विरोध गर्दै स्थानीय यातायात व्यवसायीले तनहुँमा सडक अवरुद्ध पारेका कारण आज बिहानैदेखि पृथ्वी राजमार्ग ठप्प बनेको छ । दमौलीमा यातायात व्यवसायी समितिको नेतृत्वमा यातायात मजदुरहरुले सडकमा गाडी तेर्स्याई अवरोध सिर्जना गरेका कारण राजमार्ग ठप्प बनेको हो।

पेट्रोल लुकाउन खोज्दा डेरा ध्वस्त

काठमाडौं - राजधानीमा पेट्रोलको हाहाकार भइरहेको बेला क्षेत्रपाटीमा हिजो डेरावालले कोठामा पेट्रोल लुकाउन खोज्दा आगलागी भई डेरा ध्वस्त हुनपुग्यो । प्राप्त विवरण अनुसार क्षेत्रपाटीस्थित गोकुल पूजारीको घरमा डेरागरी बस्ने नुवाकोटका कमल लामाले गएराति कोठामा पेट्रोल ल्याएर अर्को भाँडामा खन्याउन खोज्दा अचानक आगलागी हुनपुग्यो । आगलागीबाट कोठाका सम्पूर्ण सामान जल्दा करिब एक लाख बराबरको धनमाल जली नष्ट भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ । पेट्रोलजस्तो अति प्रज्ज्वलनशील पदार्थ सावधानीपूर्वक राख्न नसक्दा सो आगलागी भएको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ ।

Dáil to debate contentious Immigration Bill

The Dáil is due to begin debating the Government's controversial new Immigration Bill later today.The proposed legislation has already been heavily criticised by migrant groups and human rights organisations.The Bill, published last week by Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan, would make it considerably easier for the Government to detain and deport illegal immigrantsMr Lenihan says it is necessary to achieve public confidence in the immigration system, but critics say it contains several potential breaches of constitutional and international human rights.The Immigrant Council of Ireland says it welcomes moves to reform the system, but the Government's proposals place an emphasis on deportation rather than rights and entitlements.

डेनमार्कमा नेपालीको डेरामा आगलागी

डेनमार्कमा नेपाली विद्यार्थी मिलेर भाडामा लिएको एक घरमा शुक्रबार राति आगलागी हुदा २२ जनाको बिचल्ली भएको छ । आवास र भोजनका लागि सडकमा भौंतारिदै हिड्नु परेको एक विद्यार्थीले बताए ।
'हिजो राति दूतावासले एक छाक खान दिएको थियो' चितवन नारायणगढका निरज पाण्डेले मंगलबार टेलिफोनमा भने- 'त्यसपछि केही खाएको छैन ।'
आगलागीको कारण खुल्न नसकेको उनले बताए । 'मस्त निदाएको थिएं' निरजले भने- 'ब्युझदा चारैतिर आगाको लप्का देखे“ ।' उनका अनुसार बाहिर इटा र भित्र काठले बनेको चार तले घरमा २२ नेपाली युवा बस्दै आएक थिए । 'भएभरका मालसामान, खानेकुरा र कागजपत्र जले' उनले ।
आगलागीपछि आफूहरू घर न घाटको भएको निरज बताउछन् । 'यस्तो जाडोमा मैले तीन रात पातलो टिर्सट लगाएर काटे' उनले भने । शनिबार र आइतबार स्थानीय युवा र नगरपालिकाले बनाएको गेस्ट हाउसमा डेनमार्क सरकारले सुत्न दिएको थियो ।
कागजपत्र देखाउन नसके डेनमार्क सरकारले कारबाही गर्ने डरले थप चिन्ता बढाएको उनले बताए । 'साथीहरू कता कता गए केही थाहा छैन' उनले भने ।
परराष्ट्र मन्त्रालयका प्रवक्ता हीराबहादुर थापाका अनुुसार विद्यार्थीमाथि परेको विपतबारे दूतावासले पत्राचार गरिसकेको
छ । 'पीडितका सबै कागजपत्र निःशुल्क बनाइदिन्छौं' उनले

Five migrant groups criticise new Irish Immigration Bill

Dublin- The Irish Government's contentious new immigration legislation is coming in for further criticism today.Five groups supporting migrants and asylum seekers have expressed their opposition to the Immigration, Residence and Protection Bill published last week by Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan.The proposed legislation would make it easier for the Government to detain and deport illegal immigrants.Mr Lenihan claims it is needed to strengthen public confidence in the immigration system.However, the Immigrant Council of Ireland says a restriction on the right to marry is one area where the bill is "unnecessary and draconian".

'Safer Internet Day' aims to make internet use safer for children and to educate parents about the potential dangers. Here the initative is been supported by the National Centre for Technology in Education.

Ireland's wealth reaches new high

Dublin- Ireland's national wealth has exceeded one trillion euro for the first time according to a new report. National Irish Bank's report on the the wealth of modern Ireland calculates that Irish people have an average net worth of 674,000 euro. Excluding property however the figure is 352,000 euro.

Experts to discuss growth in foreign adoptions

Dublin- International experts will today discuss growing number of foreign children being adopted from overseas in Ireland.
Since 1991 approximately 4,500 children have been adopted into Ireland from abroad. The conference, organised by Trinity College Dublin and the Adoption Board, aims to highlight the implications for research, policy and practice including legislative challenges to deal with the growing phenomenon. Academics at Trinity’s Children’s Research Centre published a study last year on the Irish experience of intercountry adoption.A number of eminent speakers will address the issue and discuss the Irish situation. The conference, The Irish Study of Intercountry Adoption Outcomes (2007) in an international context, is being held at Dublin Castle.

New campaign to highlight need for internet security

Dublin- Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan has today launched the makeITsecure campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness of IT security amongst Irish internet users. The campaign, which is being run on an all Ireland basis for the first time, is led by a public/private consortium and will run for two weeks.

The Minister also launched very research into usage patterns amongst Irish home internet users, which was carried out as part of the campaign. The aim of this year’s campaign is to specifically address and educate people about issues that they face online on a day to day basis such as phishing, spyware, identity theft and security issues when social networking. Research shows that less than half of all internet users understand the term “phishing”. According to the iReach 2008 IT Security Report, phishing attacks will increase to an unprecedented level for this year.

Phishing involves attempts to fraudulently extract sensitive information from computer users by pretnending to be communicating from a supposedly trustworthy organisation, such as a bank, for example.Other iReach findings indicate that almost every third internet user has experienced some form of online threat in the past.Research carried out by Espion demonstrated that an average computer connected to the internet is subject to an average of 298 attempted attacks each day.

300 attacks a day on Irish Internet users

Dublin- New research has found that Irish Internet users are attacked online nearly 300 times each day. The research into online security, released by the Department of Communications today to launch its Makeit Secure campaign, also found that one in three online shoppers have experienced a threat of some kind over the last year.
Irish Internet users are faced with 298 phishing attacks every day and such incidents are expected to hit an all time high this year. The term phishing relates to attempts by fraudsters to find out sensitive information online by masquerading as trustworthy services. The findings show that the majority of parents have taken measures to protect their children's security online. Eight out of ten have given advice or rules to their children, and 68% are monitoring their children's Internet use. Minister Eamon Ryan said that the statistics should not deter people from surfing the net, but he warned Internet users to take precautions to protect themselves online.

काठमाडौँ - वनस्थलीमा गएराति भएको सडक दुघटनामा परी नौ यात्रु घाइते भएका छन् । गएराति ११ बजे वनस्थलीमा बा५ च ३९२५ नम्बरको एम्बुलेन्सर बा २ ख ५१३ नम्बरको माइक्रोबस आपसमा ठक्कर खाँदा बालाजु निवासी २० वषीया शोभा श्रेष्ठलगायत नौ जना घाइते भएका हुन् । घाइते सबैको वीर अस्पतालमा उपचार भइरहेको छ । घाइते शोभासमेत चार जनाको स्वास्थ्यस्थिति गम्भीर रहेको प्रहरीले जनाएको छ ।

लगाम कस्न बैठक

काठमाडौँ - सरकार सञ्चालनका लागि गठित सात दलीय उच्चसंयन्त्रको बैठक आज बिहानैदेखि माओवादी केन्द्रीय कार्यालय बुद्धनगरमा बसेको छ । आजको बैठकमा संविधानसभा निर्वाचन, शान्ति सुरक्षाको स्थिति, मधेस आन्दोलन, छवटा संवैधानिक आयोगको टुगो, संयन्त्रको कार्यतालिका निर्माणलगायतका विषयमा छलफल हुने बताइएको छ । हिजो बसेको मन्त्रिपरिषद्को बैठकले राज्यका सबै अङ्कमा समावेशीको सिद्धान्त लागू गर्ने निर्णयागरेपछि त्यसको कार्यान्वयनका बारेमा पनि छलफल हुने स्रोतले बताएको छ ।

राजालाई उछिन्दै प्रधानमन्त्रीद्वारा वसन्त श्रवण

काठमाडौँ - राजा जाने परम्परा तोड्दै आज प्रधानमन्त्री गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइराला वसन्त श्रवणका लागि वसन्तपुर पुग्नुभएको छ । प्रत्येक वर्षश्रीपञ्चमीका दिन गद्दीनसीन राजा हनुमान्ढोका नासलचोकभित्र आयोजित बृहत् वसन्तमहोत्सवमा वसन्त श्रवणका लागि पुग्ने परम्परा थियो तर यस वर्षेखि कडा सुरक्षाबीच प्रधानमन्त्री कोइरालाले राष्ट्र प्रमुखको हैसियतबाट वसन्त श्रवण गर्नुभयो ।
बिहान १० बजे प्रधानमन्त्री कोइराला वसन्तपुर जानुभएको थियो । दरबारका मूल पुरोहित वसन्त श्रवण वाचन गर्न वसन्तपुर नआएपछि प्रधानमन्त्री कोइराला क्रूद्ध बन्नुभएको थियो । श्रवणवाचन वसन्तपुरकै स्थानीय पण्डितबाट गराइएको थियो । त्यहाँ राजावादीले होहल्ला गर्नसक्ने आशङ्कामा व्यापक सुरक्षाकर्मी परिचालन गरिएको थियो । कोइरालाका साथ गृहमन्त्री कृष्णप्रसाद सिटौला, सभामुख सुवास नेम्वाङलगायतको उपस्थिति थियो । कुमारी दर्शनमा जस्तै राजा ज्ञानेन्द्र पनि हनुमान्ढोका आउनसक्ने आशङ्कामा स्थानीय जनसमुदाय भने कौतुहलपूण प्रतीक्षामा देखिन्थे । तर यसपटक राजा ज्ञानेन्द्र त्यहाँ नजाने विश्वस्त स्रोतले बिहान महानगरलाई बतायो । विगतमा कुमारी दर्शन गर्न प्रधानमन्त्रीका साथै राजा ज्ञानेन्द्र पनि वसन्तपुर जाँदा होहल्ला र तनाव छाएको थियो ।
वसन्त ऋतुको प्रारम्भ भएको दिन आज शिक्षाकी देवी सरस्वतीको पूजाअर्चना गरी मनाइँदैछ। नेपाली समाजमा आजको दिन दाँतले नछोई आख्या (सिङ्गो नटुक्रिएको चामलको गेडा) निल्यो भने र मञ्जुश्री (सरस्वती) देवस्थलमा अक्षर कोरी शिक्षारम्भ गर्यो भने सफलता मिल्छ भन्ने मान्यता रहेको छ। आजको दिन विवाह, व्रतबन्ध, इही, आदि शुभकर्म गर्न साइत हेर्नुपर्दैन भन्ने मान्यता पाइन्छ भने काठमाडौँको स्वयम्भू मञ्जुश्रीस्थल, फर्पिङ गुम्बा, लाजिम्पाटको नीलसरस्वतीस्थान, भक्तपुरको ल्हासापाको, लेलेको सरस्वती कुण्डमा भव्य मेला लागिरहेको छ। भनिन्छ आजकै दिन मञ्जुश्रीले आफनो चन्द्रहास खड्गले चोभारको कोटुवाल दह छेदन गरी उपत्यकाको पानी बाहिर पर्ठाई मानव बस्ती बस्न योग्य तुल्याएका थिए।

हाँस्य कलाकार मैनालीको निधन

काठमाडौं - चर्चित हाँस्य कलाकार गोपालराज मैनालीको गएराति १२:३० बजे दुःखद निधन भयो । ६५ वर्षीय कलाकार मैनाली निमोनिया बिग्रेर विगत एक महिनादेखि काठमाडौं मेडिकल कलेजमा भेन्टिलेटरभित्र उपचाररत हुनुहुन्थ्यो । गएराति साढे १२ बजे उपचारकै क्रममा मैनालीको निधन भएपछि राति नै पशुपतिमा दाहसंस्कार गरियो । स्व. मैनालीको हतारमा दाहसंस्कार गरिनुलाई कलाकार, उहाँका शुभेच्छुक एवम् सर्वसाधारणले गुनासो गरेका छन् ।
एउटा चर्चित हाँस्य कलाकारको निधनमा शोक एवम् श्रद्धाञ्जली अर्पण गर्न पाउनुपर्ने भनाइ अधिकांश शुभेच्छुकको रहेको छ । चर्चित कलाकारलाई बेवारिसे व्यक्तिसरह दाहसंस्कार गरिनु आपत्तिजनक रहेको भनाइ कलाकारको रहेको पाइयो । मैनालीका श्रीमती, छोरी, बुहारी विदेशमै रहेका छन् भने छोरा मात्र मर्ने बेलामा उनका साथमा थिए । आफ्ना बाबु चर्चित कलाकार भएकाले एकदिन शुभेच्छुकलाई श्रद्धाञ्जलि अर्पण गर्न दिनुपर्ने मैनालीका छोराको इच्छा थियो । तर उनकी सानीआमा ममताले कलाकार र शुभेच्छुक कोही चाहिँदैन भन्दै जबर्जस्ती हतारमा मैनालीको शव पशुपति लगेर दाहसंस्कार गर्न लगाएकी हुन्। ममताको भनाइ थियो- ँजिउँदो हुँदा कसैले हेरेनन्, अब मरेपछि केको बिलौना । रङ्गमञ्चदेखि चलचित्रसम्म जीवन्त हाँस्य अभिनय गर्न सफल कलाकार मैनालीलाई चङ्खे? उपनामले चिनिन्थ्यो । चलचित्र सिन्दूरमा वसुन्धरा भुसालसँग जोडी बाँधिएदेखि मैनाली चङ्खे उपनामले चिनिँदैआएका थिए । दर्जनौँ चलचित्र र नाटक खेलेका मैनालीले पछिल्लो समयमा थुप्रै टेलिचलचित्रमा समेत हाँस्य पात्रका रूपमा अभिनय गर्दैद्मआएका थिए ।

US firm to create 200 Carlow jobs

Dublin- Up to 200 jobs could be created over the next few years in Carlow town with the announcement that the US financial services giant Unum is to establish a software operation there. The IDA-backed company is promising 100 jobs by the end of 2009 with up to a further 100 more planned after that. Today's news follows a number of job losses in the town including the closure of Greencore's sugar operations.
Unum is a provider of insurance services such as disability income and income protection to the US employment market. Last year it generated more than $10 billion of sales. The company's is establishing what it describes as a strategic software service centre in Carlow, supporting Unum's US operations. The initial 100 jobs will go to graduates, as will a planned campaign to recruit 100 more into the future. Meanwhile, there are fears that there may be job losses at the ICT Europe customer support centre in Belmullet, Co Mayo.

One more Madhesi lawmaker quits

KATHMANDU - The trend of Madhesi lawmakers giving up their posts has still not stopped.
Yet another lawmaker resigned from the interim parliament on Sunday expressing dissatisfaction over the government’s attitude towards the Terai region.
Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) lawmaker Renu Yadav tendered her resignation today stating the parliament had failed to address the problems of Terai. Yadav, who also quit RJP membership, said that she will now be active for the Madhesi movement. Speaker Subash Nemwang said Yadav did not consider keeping her designation despite his efforts to convince her. Former Minister for Science and Technology and NC leader Mahanta Thakur and three other parliamentarians representing constituencies in Terai had first resigned on December 10 followed by other leaders quitting different parties to form the Terai Madhes Democratic Party.

Shannon Airport back to normal

Dublin-Shannon Airport is running as normal this morning after hundreds of passengers were delayed due to a strike by Air Traffic Controllers last night.
The unofficial action affected five incoming flights and one out-bound flight. The three hour unofficial strike by Air Traffic Controllers began at 9pm. The walk-out meant an incoming flight from Gdansk to Shannon was delayed by around two hours while an outgoing flight to Gdansk was put back by about an hour and a half. Four incoming Ryanair flights from Tenerife, Fuertventura, Faro and Paris were also delayed by between 20 and 40 minutes.They came in to land at Shannon after the strike was lifted at midnight.This dispute centres on a row between the Air Traffic Controllers and the Irish Aviation Authority over staffing levels.It has left the Air Traffic Controllers refusing to do overtime and so far talks at the Labour Relations Commission have failed to resolve the dispute.

500 evacuated after bomb scare at Dublin hotel

Dublin- Almost 500 people were evacuated from a Dublin- hotel last night following the discovery of a suspicious device. The package was spotted at the front entrance to Bewley's Hotel at Newland's Cross by a staff member at 11.45pm. Gardaí called in the Army Bomb Disposal Team, which carried out a controlled explosion. The remnants of the device are now being examined to determine if it contained explosives. Nobody was injured in the incident.

आज ल्होछार

'सम्पर्ण् तामाङ जातिको एउटै पहिचान,' 'जातीय जनसंख्याका आधारमा संविधानसभा निर्वाचन' नारासहित नेपाल तामाङ राष्ट्रिय महासंघले भनेको छ, 'तामाङसालिङ राज्य र संघीय लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्रको संस्थागत स्थापना ल्होछारको शुभकामना छ ।' हिमाली आदिवासी लोकतान्त्रिक गणतान्त्रिक संयुक्त संर्घष्ा समितिले बिहीबार सामूहिक ल्होछार आयोजना गरेको थियो । कार्यक्रममा ल्होछार हर्षढाइ“ साथै सिंगी, याक र सिली नृत्य पर््रदर्शन गरेका थिए । हुम्लाको विकट गाउ लिमीबाट आएका लामा तथा शर्पाहरूले पनि नृत्य पर्रदर्शन गरेका थिए । कार्यक्रममा विभिन्न राजनीतिक दलका प्रतिनिधिहरूले शुभकामना दिएका छन् ।

मृगौला गिरोह प्रमुख डा. अमित पक्राउ

काठमाडौं - भारतको महाराष्ट्रस्थित गुडगावका मृगौला प्रत्यारोपण गर्ने गिरोहका नाइके डा. अमित कुमारलाई प्रहरीले चितवनको सौराहामा पक्राउ गरेको छ । 'अमित कुमारसहितका तीन जनालाई सौराहाबाट बिहीबार साझ ५ बजे प्रहरीले पक्राउ गरेको छ,' गृह राज्यमन्त्री रामकुमार चौधरीले बिहीबार राति भने ।
डा. अमितलाई होटलबाट आएको सूचनाका आधारमा प्रहरीले पक्राउ गरेको थियो । मध्यमाञ्चल क्षेत्रीय प्रहरी कार्यालय प्रमुख प्रहरी नायब महानिरीक्षक -डीआईजी) किरण गौतमले भने- 'चितवनतिरै अमित आएको सूचनाका आधारमा सुरक्षाकर्मी परिचालित थिए । त्यसै क्रममा होटलमा शंकास्पद हुलियाका व्यक्ति रहेको सूचना आएपछि प्रहरी पठाउ“दा लवीमा बसिरहेको अवस्थामा डा. अमितलाई पक्राउ गरिएको थियो ।' गौतमका अनुसार अभियुक्तका साथबाट १ लाख ४५ हजार युरो र १८ हजार ९ सय अमेरिकी डलर नगद र ९ लाख ३६ हजार भारतीय रुपैयाको बैंक ड्राफ्ट फेला परेको छ ।

Prime Minister Stoltenberg is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and CPN-Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' tomorrow. He is also scheduled to inspect any one of the glacial lakes of Nepal to acquire information on the climate change in the mountain region. Prime Minister Stoltenberg is to return home Friday evening.

Lotto fever hits as Euro jackpot reaches €130m

Dublin- Lotto chiefs are urging people to buy their EuroMillions ticket early today as the jackpot reaches a whopping €130m. If not won by a player or players matching five numbers and two lucky stars, the jackpot will roll down to the winners in the next highest prize category.

The last EuroMillions draw was held in late September. There was no winner in the top prize category of Match 5 plus 2 stars and the jackpot dropped to the next prize level of Match 5 plus 1 star.
Fourteen winners from Europe received over €9.8m each.Since Ireland joined the EuroMillions game in October 2004, over seven million Irish players have won over €240m in prizes.In July 2005, Dolores McNamara from Limerick won the largest individual EuroMillions prize of €115m euro.

Speed limit for foreign drivers in Ireland

Dublin- The leader of the Seanad, Fianna Fáil's Donie Cassidy, has called for an 80km/ph speed limit to be imposed on all foreign drivers. And he said that Ireland should maybe look at switching to driving on the opposite side of the road.
He said: 'I think that there should be a [80km/ph] speed limit put on anyone coming from another country that are going to use our roads, particularly from destinations where they are driving on the opposite side of the road. 'And maybe in time we should have a look here in Ireland at the possibility of changing and driving on the other side of the road.' Mr Cassidy made the comments during the order of business in the Seanad this morning when a number of senators raised the issue of road safety.

Ennis rail services postponed until Sunday

Dublin-Iarnród Éireann has said there will be no rail services between Ennis and Limerick at least until Sunday, because of flooding on the railway line. Heavy rain has meant that a section of the line at Ballycar, between Ennis and Sixmilebridge is submerged under at least 12cm of water, and there has been no improvement since yesterday.
The company says it is monitoring the situation on a daily basis, but given the flooding levels at present it does not seem the line will be able to open so that services can resume before Sunday.
Around 600 commuters living and working in both Ennis and Limerick use the nine daily services on the line.

नेकपा माओवादीले द्वन्द्वकालमा समानान्तर सत्ताको रूपमा गठन गरेको संयुक्त क्रान्तिकारी जनपरिषद्लाई पुन: सकृय तुल्याउने निर्णय गरेको छ । शान्ति प्रकृया शुरू भएपछि विगठन गरिएको उक्त परिषदले यसपटक समानान्तर सत्ताको काम नगर्ने तर सर्वसाधारणका विविध समस्याहरूलाई सम्बोधन गर्ने नेकपा माओवादीले जनाएको छ ।
परिषदका संयोजक तथा माओवादीका वरिष्ठ नेता बाबुराम भट्टराईले बीबीसी नेपाली सेवासित भने, "अहिले जुन अभियानमा हामी अगाडि बढ्दैछौं त्यसको निम्ति थप क्रियाशिलताको आवश्यक्ता छ ।
"त्यो भनेको समानान्तर अर्थमा नभएर विद्यमान संयुक्त सरकार र सत्ताको परिधिभित्र रहेर सहयोगी भूमिका निर्वाह गर्ने भनिएको हो ।" स्थानीय निकाय वृहत शान्ति सम्झौता र अन्तरिम संविधानमा उल्लेख गरिए अनुसार नेकपा माओवादी र अन्य सत्तापक्षीय दलहरूबीच एक वर्षभित्र स्थानीय निकायहरू गठन हुनु पर्नेमा त्यसो नभएको भट्टराईले बताए । उनले भने, "त्यसैले जनताका समस्या समाधान गर्न स्थानीय निकायहरूका कर्मचारीहरूलाई सघाउन हामीले भूमिका निभाउने भनेको हो।"
माओवादी नेताहरूले त्यसो भनेपनि उनीहरूले पुन: सक्रिय बनाएका परिषदका गतिविधीहरूका कारण अन्य दलहरूका चुनावी अभियान प्रभावित हुने तथा तनाव बढ्ने हो कि भनी चिन्ताहरू पनि व्यक्त गरिएका छन् । त्यस्ता चिन्ताहरू व्यक्त गरिंदै गर्दा पश्चिम नेपालको दार्चुला जिल्लामा आफ्नो पार्टीको आमसभामा बुधवार भाग लिन पुगेका नेपाली कांग्रेसका नेता तथा पूर्वमन्त्री दिलेन्द्रप्रसाद बढुमाथि ढुंगामुढा प्रहार भएको थियो । बढुसमेत ११ जना घाइते हुने गरी भएको उक्त घटनामा माओवादी कार्यकर्ताहरू संलग्न भएका उनका सहयोगी नरेन्द्रसिं धामीले बताए । तर माओवादीको जिल्ला नेतृत्वले भने सो घटना आफूहरूबाट नभई स्थानीय बासिन्दाबाट भएको जनाएका छन् ।

Irish Economy to recover in 2009

Dublin- The economy should experience a strong recovery in 2009 after the marked deceleration of this year, according to the latest economic commentary from AIB.
The bank - in its Irish Economic Update for February - says that the fundamentals of the Irish economy remain sound, so growth should pick up in 2009/2010 as the downturn in the housing market bottoms out and global growth improves.
AIB says that Ireland's economic performance remained 'impressive' in 2007, with real GDP estimated to have grown by 5.5% and employment up by 3.4%.

Nationwide school closure enters day two

KATHMANDU - Academic institutions throughout the nation remained closed for the second consecutive on Thursday due to a strike called by Nepal Educational Republican Forum (NERF).
The NERF called the three-day educational strike from Wednesday to press the government for implementing the agreements reached earlier. The agitating teachers alleged that the government failed to enforce the agreements reached in last April.
Earlier, the government had assured the fulfillment of the demands put forth by the agitating teachers of both the government and community schools that includes providing permanent appointments teachers through a systematic procedure among others. The Front affiliated with nearly 10 teachers’ association announced the strike at academic institutions up to higher secondary level. The teachers have warned to intensify their protest if the government keeps being insensitive to their demands. Millions of students in the country are deprived of their basic rights to attend due to the strike.

400 jobs to go at Arnott's in Dubin

Dublin- Up to 400 jobs will be lost at the Arnott's department store this year. The jobs will go ahead of the 1 billion Euro redevelopment of the site which lies between Dublin's Abbey Street and Henry Street.
The redundancies are paving the way for a new development by the department store group including apartments, stores and a hotel. However, it's not all bad news. 700 new jobs will be created when the development opens in 2011.

British Embassy staff to mount pickets on Thursday

Dublin- British Embassy staff in Dublin have announced plans to stage a 24-hour strike on Thursday as part of an on-going row over jobs. Around 40 members of the Unite trade union will mount a picket at the building in the Ballsbridge area, as well as the Ambassador's official residence. The dispute centres on moves by the Embassy to lay off three workers. Talks aimed at resolving the impasse have ended without agreement and Unite says the ambassador has refused to attend discussions at the Labour Relations Commission.

5 die, 2 dozens injured in road mishap in Saptari

SAPTARI - Five people died and 2 dozens others were injured when a passenger bus veered off the road in Saptari district Tuesday afternoon. The dead ones have been identified as Resham Lal Chaudhary, 60, of Saptari Jhandaul and Tek Narayan Chaudhary,55, of Paspaun. The rest of the three are yet to be identified.
According to a police post of Bagdaha, the accident occurred after the driver could not control the bus’ high acceleration. The passenger bus heading from Siraha to Biratnagar had skidded and fell 20 meters down the road at a stretch of the East-West Highway at Koshi barrage of Bhardaha VDC in Saptari around 3 this afternoon.

पहिलेको तुलनामा अहिले कलङ्कीमा चोरी, लुटपाट आदि विकृतिजन्य काम कम भएका छन् र जाम पनि कम हुने गरेको छ । र्सवसाधारणदेखि यात्रुमा सुरक्षा तथा सहजता दिलाउन वाईसीएल परिचालित भएको वाईसीएलका कार्यकर्ता विशाल थापा बताउँछन् । कलङ्कीमै ट्राफकिसँगै सहकार्य गरेका वाईसीएल कार्यकर्ता अमन भन्छन्-जनताको सजिलोका लागि हामी सक्रिय भएका छौँ । जाम हटे यात्रु पनि सोचेकै समयमा गन्तव्यमा पुग्छन् । उनीहरूलाई पनि राम्रो, हामीलाई पनि सफलता मिल्नेछ ।
