Proposal to double penalty points over bank holidays
Dublin- The transport minister is considering a proposal to double penalty points on some driving offences committed over bank holidays.Under the plan, motorists breaking the rules over long weekends would get four points for speeding, and six points on their licences for drink driving.The double demerit scheme has been in place in Australia's New South Wales state since 1997.The suggestion's come from the government chief whip Tom Kitt.
