Ireland's Population to reach five million within six years
Dublin- Ireland's population should reach five million people within the next six years, according to the Central Statistics Office.
However, the CSO is also predicting that the population will fall back to 4.9 million by 2041 due to falling fertility and migration rates. Elsewhere, the CSO says there will be three times as many people aged 65 and over by 2041, compared to today. The number of people aged 80 and over will quadruple from 110,000 today to almost 500,000 in 33 years' time.
