Irish Schools seek guidlines on Hijab
Wexford- The principal of a Wexford Secondary school has called on the government to issue guidelines on the wearing of the muslim Hijab in state schools.
Nicholas Sweetman from Gorey Community School wrote to then Minister Mary Hanafin last October saying help from the department would clarify the issue for schools and Muslim parents.
A Muslim couple had asked that their child be allowed wear the headscarf in class - and the principal agreed, pending approval by the board of management.The board wrote to the minister for guidelines, who later replied saying it was a matter for them to decide
