Dublin- The vast majority of Irish workers would take a salary cut if it meant getting their dream job, it was revealed today.
With the government, unions and employers locked in the latest round of national pay talks a survey has found 84% of people believe a fulfilling career is more important than money. And the poll by recruitment website Monster showed the Irish were the most enthusiastic workforce in Europe when it came to sacrificing their wages for a top role.
“It’s gratifying that European workers see there is more to life than just money,” Monster UK and Ireland Managing Director Julian Acquari said. “Finding the right job for someone is just as important as finding the right person for the job; it has to be a positive relationship for both the employer and the employee.” The poll of more than 20,000 people across Europe was carried out online over several weeks last month.
While the Irish were the most likely to take a pay cut for their dream position, the least enthusiastic were those from France, Belgium, Hungary and Poland. The latest round of national pay talks began last month with unions calling for wage increases in line with inflation.
