Public transport users in Ireland face 5% hike in fares
Dublin- Commuters across the country are facing another hike in the cost of public transport from today. Fares on all Bus Éireann, Iarnród Éireann, DART and Dublin Bus services are increasing by an average of 5%.The move follows a 4% rise in LUAS fares that came into force in Dublin on Monday. The increases are designed to help the companies meet rising costs, but critics say they will only serve to penalise people who use public transport. Meanwhile, rail commuters in the greater Dublin area could be facing extra costs later this year as Iarnród Éireann plans to expand paid parking to several more train stations.
