25,000 drivers get penalty points for mobile phone use

Dublin- Conor Faughnan of AA road watch says the nation is addicted to mibles. More than 25,000 motorists have reportedly received penalty points for using a mobile phone while driving since the offence was introduced 18 months ago. Reports this morning say figures from the Department of Transport show that driving while holding a phone is now the third most common offence, after speeding and failing to wear a seatbelt. Almost 600,000 penalty-point notices have been issued to speeding motorists since October 2002.
