Motorists warned to take extra care on icy roads in Ireland
Dublin- Motorists are being warned to take extra care on the roads this morning amid dangerous conditions in many parts of the country. Heavy frost, snow and ice are being reported in several areas, particularly the north, the midlands and eastern areas. Drivers are advised to reduce their speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
The AA says the worst-affected areas are in Co Westmeath, on the N4 near Carrick-on-Shannon and between Waterford and New Ross and near Ashbourne in Co Meath, where some roads are said to be impassable. The North has also been badly affected, with hundreds of motorists abandoning their cars last night following the heaviest snowfalls for many years. The main Belfast to Dublin road was among the worst-affected routes.
