Up to 4000 criminals on the run in Ireland

Dublin- Almost 4000 convicted criminals who should be in Garda custody remain on the run in Ireland. According to figures in today's 'Irish Independent' the committal warrants are orders for the arrest of people who have been convicted of an offence and are to be imprisoned. However, gardaí cannot say how many fugitives are at large because they can't tell if some criminals are facing multiple warrants. Over 1,200 criminals remain at large in the Dublin area alone.
