Airline fatalities drop by a fifth
Dublin- New figures show flying is becoming safer. The number of people who died in passenger airline crashes last year fell by 20% compared with 2006. There were 631 passenger fatalities worldwide in 2007 compared to an average of 954 in the nineties. The worst single accident was in Sao Paulo, Brazil when an Airbus overran the runway on landing - killing all 181 passengers on board.
