Prince's Croke Park concert cancelled

Dublin- Over 55,000 fans will be disappointed today after the upcoming Dublin concert by US pop star Prince was cancelled. The concert was due to be held at Croke Park on Monday June 16th. Prince: Croke Park concert cancelled
Promoters MCD accounced that "due to reasons beyond the control" of both Prince and MCD, the concert would not go ahead and the 55,161 ticket holders will be fully refunded. Tickets ranged in price from €66.50 to €125.50, excluding handling fees. The gig had been billed as a greatest hits tour and his last ever trip to Ireland. The star sold out a 21-night run at London's 20,000 capacity 02 Arena last year.
MCD said plans are under way to reschedule the concert for next year. MCD had applied for a licence to stage the event, as the stadium has planning permission for only three concerts a year. It has already hosted concerts by Celine Dion and Westlife, while Neil Diamond is due to play on Saturday. A Dublin City Council spokeswoman said the licence was granted last Friday.
