Christmas celebrated in Nepal

KATHMANDU- From the West Bank town of Bethlehem, the Biblical site of Jesus' birth to Rome, where Pope Benedict XVI celebrated a special Mass in St Peter's Basilica to Nepal, Christmas, the traditional date of the birth of Jesus, is being marked Tuesday.
According to ekantipur.com, the Christmas festival that commemorates the birth of Jesus is marked with various cultural customs, many of which have been influenced by earlier winter festivals. The modern traditions include the display of Nativity scenes, Christmas trees, the exchange of gifts and cards and the arrival of Santa Claus. The theme includes the promotion of goodwill and peace.
It is considered a fun-filled festival that harmonizes the family when the Christmas tree is decorated with lights and flowers, gifts are placed under the Christmas tree making the children believe that Santa Claus has left their gifts under the Christmas tree. Then family members sit together for a lavish dinner.
