Marathon waits for hospital treatment in Ireland

Dublin- It's reported this morning that people can face 8 years on waiting lists before seeing a consultant in Ireland. The Irish Times says 48 people who were waiting to be seen in the outpatient department of Mayo General hospital had been on the list since 1999. The figures released under the Freedom of Information Act also show more than 139 thousand patients were on outpatient waiting lists at 24 hospitals nationwide either last year or earlier this year.
