Thousands return home after Christmas break

Dublin- Hundreds of thousands of people will be on the move again today as many return to mainland Europe and beyond after the Christmas break. With sales formally commencing today, large volumes of people are expected to use public transport. Barry Kenny of Iarnród Éireann says alternative timetables will be in operation. "We are expecting intercity services to be quite busy throughout the day, so we would advise people to check times before travelling and arrive at the station in time, so they can travel in comfort," he said.
